After giving her a tight squeeze, he opened his mouth to tell her about his night on the town with the guys, but then noticed Danni, who was up against the door of their suite, beckoning him by curling and uncurling her index finger. He then winked and tiptoed down the hall.

Zekk twirled Jaina round in her wedding dress after their champagne toast. Leia wiped away tears and clung to Han. Jacen and Tenel Ka held hands, reminiscing over their wedding two years ago. Kyp sulked in the corner unhappily.

The way I know I never will again

Kyp had had it all figured out. After Jag?s unexpected engagement to Danni Quee, he was ready to move in and take the cake: Jaina Solo. But Zekk beat him to it. Right now, the dark-haired, emerald green-eyed young man was dancing with Jaina Solo Ennth, his hand under her chocolate tresses, her brandy eyes consumed with his.

They?re dancing close
With her head on his shoulder
Lucky arms, lucky heart, lucky him

Jaina was kissing his neck, he shaking his head with laughter. She kissed his lips instead. Zekk broke it off in amusement.

?Later.? he mouthed.

They don?t see me standing in these shadows
She don?t know how bad my heart still aches

When the song ended, Kyp clapped politely, but watched Zekk like a hawk as he held Jaina?s waist and showed her to her seat at the table reserved for them. Just the two of them.

He?s holding on to everything I let go
Sure is making good off my mistakes

At the wedding reception, Kyp spoke about how he?d always loved Jaina like a sister. He felt slimy as a space slug forcing it out of his mouth. He wanted to be that man next to her.

Finally, all the speeches ended, and the music played for the newlyweds, along with the guests, to dance to.

They?re dancing close
Before too long the music will stop playing

The song seemed endless, and Kyp, without a dance partner, could only watch in agony as Zekk guided Jaina smoothly, lovingly across the dance floor.

Zekk took Jaina?s hand as Leia announced, ?Goodnight, everyone!?

He?ll take her hand and then he?ll take her home
I can just imagine what he?s saying
The way he?s smiling, I can tell he knows

Zekk smiled as he whispered, getting a giggle from his wife in response. Kyp basked in his jealously, dying to get home or be on patrol. To do something other than watch his dreams come crashing down around him. To do something other than be powerless to stop it.

Lucky arms, lucky heart

But he could only watch her wave goodbye, not a hint of sorrow or regret in the pools of brandy that were her eyes, flowing with tears of joy.

Then Zekk closed the door.

He oughta thank his lucky stars

And then she was gone.
