    Now if I ever go to a communal laundery system, I will lable my clothes.

    Thanks. It was pretty fun to draw Cad, so I'm gonna grab some more references of him and do a few more sketches, and perhaps a colored version.

    And speaking of coloring images... Just working on another pic off-and-on...

    While digging through my image folder, I came across a half-finished fan fic-centric pic from last year. Well, I finished it.

    [image=http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/9169/visitationcolor.jpg]

    I'm debating adding it to my portfolio. While I like it as a digital coloring example, I'm not entirely sure. I tend to prefer to stick to pics that I don't have to explain.

    Just colored some sketches in preparation for a whole new portfolio. Concentrating on sketch card material for this one.

    Holy grandmothers. If Topps doesn't hire you, it's a low-down dirty shame.

    Thanks. I hope Topps likes my samples. I intend to send them the linework versions as well.

    To further prove my mettle, I dug out my trading card-sized canvas and painted last night. And, I started with Zuckuss, and tested out a new painting technique.

    Yes, the colours are rather impressive and go straight under the skin.

    =D=

    You really can thrill people with your art work.

    Thanks. It's been a while since I painted and I was testing out a new technique. I did another painting, but first... Sketches!

    Laundromats are boring. Just ask Bossk and Zuckuss.

    [image=http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/1406/bountyhunterslaundromat.jpg]

    And now, the painting...

    [image=http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/1336/yodapainting.jpg]

    I haven't painted Yoda, ever, and haven't drawn him since high school, back in the 90s. And my paint palette? It's actually quite limited. Only one shade of green, brown, yellow, red, no orange... But, that's where mixing paint comes into play.

    Thanks. Yoda is far too big to scan, at least on my scanner, so I'm gonna attempt to get a scan at Staples or some place this weekend. I need to add a clear coat of glaze to protect the paint, still, something which I do not have, currently. I may look for a spray fixatif, though.

    By the way... Yoda is up for sale.

    I got a laugh out of the laundry one - I'm between wash and dry cycles at the laundrette up the street!

    Thanks. My palette is basically the basics in terms of colors and everything else needs to be mixed. I intend to add an orange and a purple to the palette, but haven't gotten around to it or even found the need, as I can get those colors just fine by mixing what I have. It forces me to mix my paints more and rely more on what colors I can make than what colors I have. It also helps to keep my palette consistent, a consistently warm or cool palette, rather than a mix.

    Anywho, since my net's down (as usual, it seems), I've been just sketching and coloring (and crocheting scarves... lots and lots of scarves...) random things. I'll need to do a bulk scan and toss up some sketches later, but in the meantime... Preparation for the Dear Diary challenge with a cover image.

    VERY interesting. Is drawing for the story helping you get plot bunnies for it?

    Yep, so I'd best start sketching more stuff that pertains to the story! I should do the same for my NaNo fic that ground to a halt.

    Anywho, just a couple of sketches that I haven't shown yet.

    [image=http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/3623/ahsokasmirk.jpg]

    Ahsoka with a skewed nose.

    [image=http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/1517/hansketches.jpg]

    Han sketches, first ever.

    [image=http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/280/ahsokasketches.jpg]

    More Ahsoka sketches.

    [image=http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/19/hansketch03.jpg]

    Another Han sketch.

    I'm really struggling with Han's likeness. Every sketch I draw of him (and I have more than what I showed) just has something about it that bothers me, yet I can't quite figure out what exactly is wrong with his likeness.

    I love your sketches of Ahsoka and your sketches of Han Solo are pretty good.

    Hmmm... trying to work out what might be throwing you off... the angle of the lighting does have a way of altering what the proportions look like to the eye and slight tweaks does have dramatic effects. This might disrupt the look you are trying to achieve but maybe having more of the midtones to define the shape and features on the highlighted side of the face...

    I just want to say as someone who draws Han Solo all the time, Harrison Ford is one of the most difficult likenesses to get. His features are not symmetrical, so the little tricks and guidelines we are taught in class do not work here....or rather, they don't work very well. I found that the key here is really focusing on drawing what you see and take lots and lots of measurements (you know, the little artist trick of extending your arm and measuring with your pencil - it may sound and look silly, but it was one of the first fundamental things we learned my freshman year in college and it really works).

    With that said, at first glance your sketches are actually nicely done. You can tell who it is, but like you said, there are just little things that are off. If you're a perfectionist with your art like I am, I know from experience that that little bit can drive you completely insane. :p In the second sketch, for example, the left eye(the one in shadow) is too close to the bridge of the nose. It's causing the shape of his face to look much rounder than it is in reality. The angle of his nose is also a little bit off. The angle needs to be a little steeper and maybe not so rounded. I also think adding the shadow to the right side will also bring it together. I also believe the contour on the left side of the face may be off as well. I'll need to look a little closer at the reference and compare measurements a little more closely.

    I would also like to help you out with the other two as well - do you have the reference images available for those two?

    Anyway, I hope that was able to help you out - let me know if you have any other questions or comments! :)
