I think a lot of people would do that but there is some uncertainty about what happens when the truncation issue is solved. Right now we have truncation and also a lot of the symbols have been replaced with question marks. Nobody can tell the fanfic community if the question mark problem will be resolved. All they are told is if they fix their story themselves, when the truncation issue is solved any edits they made to their truncated posts will disappear and be replaced with the original post…but it still might have the question marks all over it. Many writers don't want to go to the effort of repairing a 50K word story and then, when the truncation issue is solved, have to go back and remove all the question marks that are substituted for quotes or other symbols. I don't know, maybe this question has been answered and I just haven't heard. I can see going to the effort when you have an ongoing story, but for older stories it is not worth it in my opinion. They are usually buried on page 42 and nobody is going to read them because we don't have a good indexing system.
