Arena Raise Hell, Praise Dale - NASCAR/North American Racing Series Discussion

Big News: Kasey Kahne will drive the 5 for Hendrick Motorsports in 2012. This leaves him without a ride for 2011, but rumor suggests that he might be the third car that Stewart-Haas Racing has been looking to add for next year.

 

4 races in and the championship looks to be between 3 guys: Johnson, Hamlin & Harvick. Gordon and Stewart will need the three of them, especially Johnson, to have issues to be in it. BUT Talledega is still there, so anything could happen.

 

After the Nationwide race last night:

Danica, we *do* know what downforce is here in Nascar Land. Don't need you to dumb it down for us. Even when you say "nose weight", I know what you mean. It's okay.

I do love these new Nationwide cars though. The Cup cars for next year look good with the new nose, too.

I say Jimmie Johnson is a lock for the championship. That guy is just unbelievable, that's all I can say.

Danica Parick has made NASCAR history by becoming to first woman ever to win a NASCAR Sprint Cup poll and will be the poll leader for next week's Daytonia 500.

 

Can't wait for the 500 next weekend. Can't come fast enough.

I can't wait for sunday as well. If the Sprint Unlimited(weird calling it that) is any indication, the 500 is going to be a great one. The slingshots in that race were crazy.

 

Today marks 12 years since Dale Earnhardt died at Daytona on the final lap.

Agreed. The only reason I posted it here was because it didn't show horrific injuries. Just seeing the tire in the stands gives you a clue as to how bad this was.

Edit: and apparently from what I'm hearing on ESPN (switched over to it as soon as the local news reported the crash), the guy taking off his shirt was helping trying to help a guy with a leg injury (apparently it was sliced by debris), no word yet on the guy who got hit/pinned by the tire.

 

That is so scary. I would have freaked out so bad if I saw that live.

 

I read on espn that Danica Patrick had to leave the race early to pick up food to make supper.

 

My prayers go out to those injured fans. That is so scary. I always sit higher up at races for this very reason. Makes you wonder if racing at superspeedways is going to change again.

 

Dario Franchitti just tweeted something to the effect that it should at least as far as the fencing goes.

Crap, ESPN just showed Kyle Larsen's car. It showed nearly the entire front end missing and then showed where the pieces of it and the engine ended up: Engine in the middle of the fence and the pieces of the car (including that now infamous tire) in the stands.

 

Finally a reason to actually watch Nascar.

The good news in all this of course is the fact that the people in the stands were probably so drunk on el-cheapo water-beer that they didn't feel a damn thing when the tire landed on them.

One would assume that she would just get drive-through....

 

The good news is that everybody's going to be okay and everybody lives.

 

Save for a few more missing teeth. But in the grand scheme of Nascar, nobody would really notice anyway.

Good race today. The Danica coverage got really sickening but she drove smart and had a good race. We'll see if she can do this at the intermediate tracks on the schedule though...
