Definitely closer to the "love him" than "hate him." Although he was never my driver, as I moved from Bobby Labonte straight to Harvick, really, I always liked Dale.

One of my best friends is a spitting image of him, and also a huge fan. The sport will really miss him, as will I - I wish him all of the very best.

Weird thing about Jr. is he was never as good as he was popular, but he was still one of my favorite drivers. I don't even know who I will root for next year, him and Gordon were the 2 I've rooted for the most and now both are done.

    I enjoyed this:

I am in the minority of KH fans who also like Logano. Talented kid, has grown a lot. Also, he helps people change their tires.

Daytona qualifying and "Clash" tomorrow. Logano ran the best in the last practice, looks like Stenhouse and Hamlin also have strong setups.

I think Stenhouse is going to have a big year, and he's my pick to get the Daytona pole tomorrow.

McMurray crashes out, and Kyle Busch destroys the field in an exhibition race on the last lap just so he can finish 7th.

    business as usual

Good qualifying run for 4, at least. We'll see how the duels play out.

edit - nvm on busch. looks like larson initiated it. [face_dunno]

Daytona Duels tomorrow - two teams dominating the front rows.

Duel #1 will be Bowman/Johnson/Byron from the Hendrick stable with Suarez from JGR at 4. #2 will be Hamlin/Busch/Jones from JGR with Chase Elliott from Hendrick at 5.

On the other hand, it is kinda nice to see the #3 car back in the winner's circle at Daytona.

    false

if anything, it's a reminder of how awful it was to bring the number back for a brat like austin dillon

Originally, I was OK with the #3 being brought back, but in the last few years, seeing it actually back on track, I've now fallen into the camp of wishing it had been retired.

And for those who would respond with "then shouldn't this huge list of numbers also be retired if we're going to get into that business?", I simply say no. At most, two other numbers deserve retirement consideration: #43 (The King) and #48 (when Jimmie retires). That's it, and I'm not even convinced that either of those two should be retired.

Those three drivers (in which I include Jimmie Johnson even though I hate his guts) are each the greatest driver of their era. No one else IMO comes close to warranting consideration for number retirement.

Kenseth's returning to drive a limited schedule in the 6 car for Roush this season. Given how dreadful Bayne has been, I imagine this becomes long-term/permanent next year.

If Jack can shake Carl Edwards out of his premature retirement, he can restore RFR to a top garage. Currently, they're a joke.

Not sure - I think SHR will absolutely get 10 - they've got an incredible stable, with Almirola looking like a massive upgrade over the last driver of the 10.

Even though it's exciting to have a new model, I worry that we'll likely be in the spot next year with the Mustang that Hendrick seems to be in right now. But enjoying the run while it lasts.

    My view yesterday:

    Also picked this up:

Super hot day and not a great crowd, but an exciting finish to the race other than the result.

Plate races really are becoming more and more the only opportunities during the season for these small teams to get an incredible finish.

AJ getting top 3, Buescher scoring a top 5, Dibenedetto a top 10, and Jeffrey Earnhardt at 11th - with the limited budgets and inferior equipment that they run with - is great to see.

Congrats to Erik Jones on his first career win - special to get that at Daytona.

Congrats to Jones. Would have preferred Chase, William or Alex to get a Win first, but hopefully, this gives them the motivation to do so.
