I thought that the suicidal teddy bear, or more accurately, Sam and Dead's reactions to the suicidal teddy bear, was the funniest freaking thing I had ever seen. But I am now partway through s4e18, "Monster at the end of this book", and oh... oh, my... there have been so many hilarious parts. "Don't do homework. Watch some porn." Classic. The squealing fan girl/publisher gushing over the 'fictional' Sam and Dean... priceless. But nothing, I think, will top the the scene where Dean reads about the fan community and Sam explains to Dean the nature of 'slash' fiction. I almost made myself sick from laughing.

Ok, I've got to go finish watching the episode now. Castiel just showed up all serious-like.

I do love that episode. Wait until season 5. There's a couple really funny episodes there too.

Good idea on the plastic sheeting. I remember my nephews had some sort of plastic sheet posters that stuck to the wall. Maybe we could find that sort of material in clear, and paint it ourselves? That would be cooler than just white paper. (Unless the walls are white and the paper blended in.)

You know, that's a good question about the salt! It would make sense to protect it against getting broken. Hey, Q, why does salt work anyway? Is there some reason it needs to be open to air and loose? For our salt, I was thinking perhaps glue it together with a clear glue, just to be practical cut down on mess?

 

The Goetia and The Lesser Key of Solomon are the same book; it's mostly based on Enochian lore -- but yeah, that's the one with the seals (devil's traps). I know it's online in a couple places -- so's the Book of Enoch, but I'm not slogging through that on a screen.

Salt is a natural preservative, so there's that association, also it's white, which is associated with the moon (also, in dualistic terms, with good/purity). It's associated with water (sea salt) and with the earth (a mineral). Salt is used for protection in many cultures and traditions, and even Catholic holy water has salt (blessed, of course) in it.

As for it being open to the air, I can only think that it needs another element (air or water) to make it active. It doesn't seem to do much good just sitting on my counter.

 

Whoa! That was frakking hilarious! Metafiction about itself! "The best parts are when they cry!" And the slash fiction -- they stopped short of using the term "Wincest"! The whole comic shop scene had me giggling, too. (T, I also loved the whole teddy bear doctor thing, and the suicide attempt -- that I saw what happened with the fluff coming didn't make it any less funny!

They're getting very good at doing something that Buffy was very good at, which is taking a flat-out comedic situation and turning it on its head to make it either dire, or emotional, or both.

I have just one episode left for season 4. I don't like where this is going! I'm not fond of the irresponsible addict-Sam aspect, since I've always seen him as being so responsible, but the thing that really bothers me the most is the way it is impacting the relationship between Dean and Sam. Their close ties and the utter importance they have for each other has been the cornerstone of the series so far. They'd get in the occasional spat, but this is different. And I don't like where this looks to be headed.

Season 5 dvds are... somewhere on their way. They've been picked up for shipping in Wa, but no further update yet. Luckily I have some episodes on TiVo to tide me over till they get here.

 

I'm sure there are several different versions on this theme, but this one comes with cute artwork. I found it on this webpage.

I'll post links to start rather than the images directly; not sure how much there might be spoilers. I suspect the first one references a scene in season 6, based on something my friend Melinda said, but it is a relatively minor spoiler I guess? I'll be away for a week for the holidays -- how will I survive without the boys?! (Maybe I should take some of the books and comics I've been neglecting....)

 

Oh, yeah.... I went and bought those books; The Book of Enoch and an Herbal. Happy Solstice to me!

 

A whole week? Q, how will you survive? You'll have access to a dvd player, yeah? Bring some with you! I don't think I could go a whole week. We'll worry about you!

How far ahead of you am I? I assumed you'd be at the end of season 4 by now.

I haven't read any of the books or comics yet, but the first three books went on my wish list which was conveniently forwarded to my parents.

I've got the two older comics series, but there's a new one out that I still need to find the other editions of. And I've only read the first two books.

 

I only have one left of season 4 now. I agree with you, T, and I don't like where this is heading, either, but it's been heading that way for some time. Though I give credit to the writers -- I can see it from Sam's POV, too, although he's totally being played (but then, so is Dean). Damn angels. I called Castiel an SOB when he opened the door. I startled my cat.... Oh, yeah, that Lillith lore Ruby told Sam isn't accurate, either. But I can see why they went that way to fit it in with the "humans can become demons" part of the show's mythology.

I don't have the DVDs for season 5; nnay burned me some .avi files till she can get me the DVDs from her friend. I think my sister (I'm going to her place) has seen through season 5, but she knows about spoiler warnings, so I should be safe.

Oh -- LOL -- by books and comics, I wasn't referring to SPN stuff. I've been woefully neglecting my regular reading piles. I still have to lay hands on the SPN comics. I'm hoping they're in TPB or that could be a problem.
