Do they? Batman had 4, Superman had 4 (5 since Returns was intended as a continuation), Fantastic Four got to 2, X-Men is at 7 (going onto 8), no plans to reboot the Marvel heroes.

Raimi's Spiderman and Nolan's Dark Knight are the only two - for Dark Knight it isn't a reboot since casting Affleck and the plot of an older Batman after years of crime fighting means the intention is not another origin or do over.

Well obviously flops dont make it two 3. X-men did reboot. I mean First Class basically did that and Days of Future Past outright did it with a brand new timeline.

U dont need to out and out reboot u can do a relaunch.

First Class isn't a reboot. Even if it was, the series had already done four movies.

The only "flop" series here is Fantastic Four - and only the the second movie actually flopped.

By itself, Superman Returns was a flop but part of a larger successful series. It wasn't a reboot, it was just recast.

The "trilogy, then reboot" rule doesn't seem to be a rule at all.

I dont know i consider a recast a reboot when it comes to the lead character.

    Still Blade, Dark Night, Spider-man,

How so X-men had 3 movies then First Class unless ur counting Wolverine which is a solo and a spinoff not a team x-men movie even if wolverine dominates the screentime in the X-men Movies.

The main thing is, the movies will be staggered, telling different stories, more or less independently. A whole different team is probably working on The Boba Fett movie as we speak, though in a less juicy stage of production.

Which is to say, the New Rule of Two may actually make things tougher ... it may actually be four (six?!) years before we hear from Han, Leia and co. again.

    Lucas' outlines end at 9

Disclaimer: i am not suggesting they have to or will follow his outline to the last letter as that would nullify the definition of OUTLINE anyway but they are not going to make stuff up out of thin air

A recast is a recast, a reboot is a reboot. Reboot means to abandon continuity in an to recreate its characters, timeline and backstory from the start.

Blade is a trilogy with no reboot - TV series was a continuation. There hasn't been any other movies.

Affleck's Batman could be considered a character reboot, but we have to wait and see.

    Yes, Spider-Man.

The Wolverine solo movies were a part of the continuity. First Class should have been a reboot to take advantage of the superior cast but Days of Future Past has undone that.

Still, Dark Knight and Raimi's Spiderman's are the only movies to reboot after a trilogy. Even if we agreed on X-Men, that is still a only three and in the minority.

As a matter of interest, do you consider the likes of James Bond and Doctor Who to be a reboot with each new 007 or Doctor? I'd say Casino Royale was reboot but only that.

The alleged Boba Fett movie ;)

    What do you mean?

Oh and as far as sw being "over-dilluted" goes

    1. I plan on judging saga films and spinoffs separately and i doubt i am alone in this regard
    2. Even on the 3720-1 chance i am ;) its one movie a year Marvel (ironically also a division of Disney) has been releasing 2 a year since 2008 and plans to go to three a year beginning 2016 and they pretty much rule the film industry right now
