In the silence that followed Alvarez's little speech, Jed led the group through the Garden's little paths, winding their way through to the dining area. Jed pushed the doors open, beckoning for them to follow. Alana stayed quiet at the time, as she looked around.

Sunlight streamed into the dining area from windows on the far side, illuminating a large, spacious hall with tables of various sizes scattered about. At this hour, only a few diners were there: two young women at the far end, and a middle-aged man engrossed in a book. Along the right side were several food vendor stalls, staffed by bored-looking men and women, as well as an open door that led to the kitchens.

"What would you like?" Jed asked politely. She pointed to the food vendors. "We have a variety of food here - feel free to browse and order whatever you wish."

Alana's eyes grew large at that statement, and fingers twitched in anticipation. She had quite an appetite at the moment, and she looked forward at least to a good meal, before she had to worry about what this place represented, and just how dangerious it could possible become. With a few steps, Alana walked over to the bored looking food vendors.

"What local dishes do you know?" she aked cheerfully. "If you have an interesting vegetarian platter, I would love something like that, and some aromatic tea." she stated as she smiled at the vendors, hoping that she at least seemed friendly.

Pyr could feel the adrenaline building inside him again. The original plan was back on then. He stood up, "Let's do this." He turned to look at Antur. "Ready whenever you are."

"We have a variety of food here - feel free to browse and order whatever you wish."

Knowing that the words were mostly meant for the new arrivals, Alec stepped over to one of the vendors once they were in the dining area. He had dined within the Conclave several times since being accepted, and as Alec moved over to one of the vendors, he already had an order made up in his mind of what he wanted.

"Just a salad and some coffee if you would," Alec politely ordered. He was only a little hungry and something small and healthy would do with a bit of caffeine. He still had many things to think about, of what he would do next and where to go. Maybe pay a visit to Erisi and see what events may be taking place within the Conclave.

Once he got his food, Alec wandered over to an empty table in the dining area and planted himself on it before digging a fork into his salad to place some of the greenery into his mouth and chew while he thought.

Lyceus Eltotsira

Food Court, Conclave Campus

The implications raised by the previous statements concerning the Ashla and the goverment sent Lyceus into an introspective mood. The Philosopher kept silent as he mused further on what was said. Lyceus was by no means naive, not at all. He was alturistic, yes, but not naive. The concerns Alana had voiced were similar to some of his, but though he had not voiced them, he was vigilant for signs of any undue 'disturbances'.

For a long time Lyceus did desire to have a serious discussion about all possible ramifications concerning the study of Ashla, but had yet to find a like mind to have said discussion with.

Perhaps the wait was over.

For now he decided to keep his peace and follow along.

As it was, Jed led the group through the Garden's little paths, winding their way through to the dining area. Eventually they emerged to see a building not unlike the one they left earlier. Jed pushed the doors open, beckoning for them to follow. Once inside, Lyceus did notice that the eatery was nearky deserted save for a couple of patrons, one of which was lost in a book he was reading. Curious as ever, Lyceus' eyes gravitated towards the book cover as he attempted to catch a glimpse of the book's title.

The wonderful aroma of food caused him to turn his head and regard the food vendors that were now before them.

"What would you like?" Lyceus heard Jed asked politely. "We have a variety of food here - feel free to browse and order whatever you wish."

Even at first glance Lyceus could see that the food vendors offered a wide variety of appetizing dishes. Hew couldn't quite decide on what he wished when he heard Alana put in her order.

"What local dishes do you know?" she aked cheerfully. "If you have an interesting vegetarian platter, I would love something like that, and some aromatic tea."

Hmm. Tea. That was an appealing choice. But he wasn't that hungry at the moment.

Glancing around, Lyceus spotted a nearby stack of menus and opened his hand. He immeditely caught himself and went to stroke his beared. He'd almost levitated the item to himself just now. What was he thinking? He couldn't afford to be so careless in public. Lyceus waited a beat or two, just to make sure no one had noticed the false movement, then casually walked over and picked up a menu and made as if it was the most interesting thesis he'd come across in awhile.

No, he wasn't feeling very hungry at all. But he knew he had to maintain appearances, so eat he would.

"A kettle of Elysian tea, please. And a side order of dragon rolls."

Lyceus nodded to the food vendor and patiently waited for his order to be filled. Once done, he took his food tray to the table where Alvarez would be seated and joined the small group.

Alana noticed that Alec seemed to avoid her. He ordered a small meal, and then immediately whent to a open table away from the others...perhaps, to be alone? He immediately started eating.

As she turned back to her own order, the one who liked to crack jokes,
Lyceus stepped up next. He reached out with his hand...and walked over to pick up a menu. Didnt take him long to order.

"A kettle of Elysian tea, please. And a side order of dragon rolls."Once done, he took his food tray to the table where Alvarez would be seated and joined the small group.

Maybe she had been thinking wrongly. When her food came, she sniffed at the food, and quickly picked up on all the lovely spices and aromas coming from her meal. She still felt self-conscious about eating around others, but perhaps she might hear some other beings ideas on the subject. So far, she had been the only one to bring up questions. She HOPPED she wasnt the only one worried about such things.

With a soft sigh, she picked up her tray, and took a seat at the table immediately next to the others. She closed her eyes, to offer thanks before she began to eat, humming slightly, as she began to test her meal.

Well, Xan informs me that there is a shortage of bad guys at the moment, and has pulled me from the waiting list. And now, Inquisitor_Skywalker presents (*cue drumroll*):

Name: Malden Raith (goes by Mal) (as a Browncoat, I just couldn't resist that one )

Talent: Force Lightning
Appearance: 5'10" tall, with a stocky, thick build and short brown hair. He was born with dark blue eyes, but constant experimentation with the emotion-fueled aspects of the Ashla has left them flecked with an unnerving shade of amber. While he is not handsome in a conventional sense, he is not ugly either. He has numerous burn scars on the tips of his fingers and on his palms from experimenting with his unusual talent.

Brief Bio: At a young age, Mal discovered his talent by accident. Angry at his mother for taking a prized toy, he unwittingly tapped into the Ashla and zapped her with a tiny bolt of electricity. Normally, this could have been dismissed as a simple discharge of static electricity, but for the fact that mother and son were on opposite sides of the room at the time. Unfortunately for Mal, his father, a medical researcher and believer in the then-unconfirmed existence of the Ashla, renowned for his unscrupulous practices, was present to witness the event.

His mother, devoutly religious, believed him to be possessed by a demon, and left Mal's father when he insisted on investigating their son's newfound ability, rather than having the local clergy perform an exorcism. Alone with his father, Mal became the subject of years of secret experimentation. When his father discovered that Mal's power was fueled by strong negative emotion, he took to abusing the young boy in the name of science. Growing up in a harsh, loveless environment, it was no surprise that Mal came to resent his treatment at the hands of his "normal" father.

When Mal was seventeen, his father mysteriously died. The medical examiner declared the cause of death to be cardiac arrest induced by an unexplained electrical discharge to the chest.

Mal eventually went on to become a researcher and scientist in his own right, continuing his father's experiments on himself in an attempt to refine his abilities. An ambitious man, and a firm believer in the concept of "might makes right", Mal came to hold all the "normals" in contempt, envisioning a world in which those with the ability to use the Ashla became Tython's new ruling class.

When the Ashla Conclave was formed, he quickly joined, eager to meet his peers and to hear their views on the role Ashla-sensetives would play in the future of Tython. However, the pacifistic philosophy taken by most in the Conclave left him greatly disappointed, and he became something of a controversial figure there for his many treatises and lectures on the right to rule that he believed all Ashla-sensetives are born with.

Disillusioned by the weak ideologies of his peers, he eventually gave up on trying to show them his view. Instead, he chose to live a reclusive life, continuing to refine his abilities, while quietly performing voluntary experiments on other members of the Conclave to test the effects of strong emotion on their individual talents.

Recently, Mal came into contact with the charismatic Antur Kilvaari the young leader of the fledgeling Bogan movement. Inspired by how closely Kilvaari's views mirrored his own, Mal joined the Bogan in secret, providing inside information from the Conclave to the Kilvaari siblings. [/CS]

Apologies for the delay in updating, guys, I'm currently swamped with uni work. I'll have an update latest by this weekend (and feel free to hound me on AIM or wherever if I don't).

OOC: Xan has given me permission to do my own opener for my character, so here it is.

IC: Malden Raith; Conclave Food Court

Normally Mal would never lower himself to spending his time in the company of these weak fools, but he had come out of his lab for a very important reason. With the Bogan's upcoming attack, he was here to gauge the reactions of those present, to see if any of them could potentially be a threat to the Bogan Movement in the future.

At the moment, Mal sat alone off to the side, as far away from his pitiful 'colleagues' as he could manage (but not nearly so far as he would like), raking his unsettling amber-flecked gaze over the gathering, mentally sneering at each in turn. They were weak. All of them. Artists, philosophers, professors. None of them had the backbone to stand up to the normals and claim their rightful place as the rulers of Tython.

Mal picked at the small lunch he'd chosen, eating little. Being amongst the fools that composed the majority of the Conclave tended to sour his appetite, dragging up feelings of anger and disgust at their weakness. To pass the time, he reached out to the Ashla, using those negative emotions to fuel his talent as he performed an exercise he'd developed to help hone his control of the Ashla.

Tiny tendrils of harsh blue-white lightning danced around his right hand, converging into a writhing ball of energy, before shooting to his outstretched left hand and repeating the motions. Miniscule forks of energy stabbed into his flesh as the ball passed over his hands, sending all-too familiar bursts of pain shooting up his arms. It was a tiring activity, but he got just a little bit better, could last just a little bit longer, each time he tried.

He continued this exercise, tossing swirling balls of Ashla-fueled electricity back and forth, until he noticed that a small group of Conclave members seated nearby, unfortunately including Professor Alvarez, had taken notice of his display of power.

Knowing from years of experimentation that channeling the Ashla's power had temporarily turned his eyes from blue with amber flecks to bright, sulfurous yellow, he shot the group a harsh glare, made even more intimidating by the unnatural coloration of his eyes.

"Can I help you?" He asked scathingly.

Alana had just put a fork into her plate, when suddenly, she felt very uneasy. There was such a .. she could not pick a word. A wrongness that suddenly seemed so very close to her, it was all she could do, not to suddenly open her eyes wide, or suppress a flinch. She let her eyes roam around the room, and saw a man doing something she had NEVER seen before. And it was both fascinating, and frighting.

The man seemed to be concentrating. Tiny arc of light, like tiny lighting, or perhaps a stronger version of static, seemed to dance off his fingers. But it was much too bright to be a simple static charge. He made a ball of energy, and then sent sent it back and forth between his hands, as if he was juggling it. There was a slight scent in the air that her sensitive nose picked up.

The man suddenly stopped, and for one second, Alana thought he had noticed her looking. But he held a harsh glare towards Professor Alvarez. So much for what she had been told they do. The man glared at the Professor. And his eyes were so strange.

"Can I help you?" He asked Professor Alvarez scathingly.

Alana was shocked at how rude his reply was. And there was something else. His tone. Arrogance? Rudeness? Alana coudlnt really say. She quickly looked away, not wanting to give him another target, as she resumed eating her food. Perhaps she had found the real reason for coming to this place after all.

There was something troubling that Alec sensed which caused him to pause in his thinking and stop in mid-chew on his salad. There was sudden, harsh, and very hostile intent that he could sense. It wasn't focused on him directly, though he had felt it sharpen for a moment in his direction, but it was there. Unsettled, Alec looked for the source...and frowned a little once he located it.

Erisi had mentioned about him before when Alec joined the Conclave. He had only joined the Conclave a little over a year ago which left him lacking in the personal experience of the inner workings of the Conclave from it's formation and the nine years that passed since then before he joined. There had been...objections to the philosophy that had been chosen by the Conclave for the Ashla and, while Alec hadn't been told any details, a man named Malden Raith was a worrisome one that thought that the Conclave should change it's peaceful views on Ashla and the world itself.

She hadn't mentioned about his abilities though, which Alec blinked at as the man seemed to juggle a ball of what had moments ago been tiny arcs of what seem liked lightning.

"Can I help you?"

Alec's frown had vanished now that he recovered and he simply stared at the man with a more neutral look while he brought another bit of his salad to his lips and started chewing once again while waiting to see if Professor Alvarez or one of the members would respond.

As Wid and his two companions reached the door to Dr. Blith's office, they noticed that next to the door was a buzzer and palm pad. "Well, now what?" asked Wid, scratchign his head in thought. When his fellows did not respond, he pressed the buzzer button. A burst of static came through the loudspeaker, and Wid wondered if the Doctor was even in his office; maybe he had forgotten. No, he couldn't have forgotten; otherwise, they wouldn't have been able to get inside. Several moments of silence followed as he waited for a response from inside the office.

Appearance: Short silver hair, sky blue eyes, light tan skin. He stands six foot three, and weighs 178 pounds. Wears a blue shirt, black pants, and black boots. Has a scar over his eyes.
Brief Bio: Gilrog spent most of his life dreaming of acting. When he was seventeen he got his first job as an actor in a theater. He worked there for about three years. Around two months after his twentieth birthday he met with a unfortunate accident. A young messenger boy tripped over one of the lights used to light the stage, sending it falling. In Gilrog's attempt to catch it, the light hit him in the face blinding him, and leaving a scar over his eyes. Through this traumatic event the Ashla released itself within him giving him the ability to see through the Ashla. His new sight was far better then his sight had ever been. Nothing could escape his new gaze.

Trough his new sight he saw the power in the Ashla. He saw into the weakness of others, and the corruption of the government. Through his own corruption he joined the Bogans, believing that he had the right to help change the future.

Lyceus sat at the table with the others and snatched glances of Alana now and again. As he enjoyed his tea and dragon rolls, he busied himself with thinking of a way to engage the young lady in conversation. He had so many questions for her, but did not wish to come across as some sort of 'inquisitor'. There had to be some tact involved. But it wasn't that he lacked tact, on the contrary, he had plenty of it. The trick was finding a neutral and common enough topic. But Alana was not from the city, so he'd have to be more subtle on his approach.

Unfortunatelly, just as Lyceus had an idea on how to engage the young lady in conversation, he realized he'd waited too long as another event unfolded.

Lyceus had seen the man with the small lightning sphere earlier, but did not act upon it, as he did not wish to draw attention to either the man or himself. Having seen the man practicing the use of Ashla in public in such a brazen manner nearly made him spit his tea, but he'd managed to control that reaction. Just barely.

Now the man seemed to turn beligerent for some reason, especially towards Professor Alvarez, strangely enough. The man levelled a menacing look at the group and intoned dangerously: "Can I help you?"

Lyceus could feel the man's beligerent nature, which made him more determined to difuse the situation. To practice ashla in the open revealed much about one's character, but that negative attitude and that particular 'power', hmm. Lyceus had heard much about it.

"Greetings, good sir! It's so good to meet another supporter of the Concla...."

Lyceus got up just a bit too fast from his seated position and his tray went flying before him. His dragon rolls and his tea cup and tea kettle rose and tumbled through the air, and to his horror, towards the menacing man!

"Oh Dear!!" Lyceus exclaimed aloud, as he saw the disaster happening in slow motion. It seemed that the man would 'accidentaly' end up wearing Lyceus's meal.

I'm afraid it has already been forgotten...

Considering our GM is posting in other threads (and other games) and hasn't taken the time to post anything "IC" for a month-and-a-half in her own game (the one that she's GMing).....I'd say it's been forgotten.

Apologies again.. The thing is, I find it very easy to squeeze in a post for other games in about fifteen minutes, but writer's block is a problem for writing updates for this one. However, I know that's no excuse and I've been letting you guys down.

That said, this is unlikely to change in the near future, because DRL is an absolute pain.

So: let's make it official and leave the world of Tython for now. Perhaps we'll revisit it again someday (albeit in a smaller, less ambitious-triple-faction-politics sort of scale), but not right now.. Thank you all for playing, and I'll see you around.
