It's worth pointing out that maybe Bono jp's should have given proposed therapy a shot -- maybe they wouldn't have needed to postpone.

U2 have announced a single NZ tour date. Ticket start at the unbelievable price of NZ$40 (US$25 or so). Last time the GA tickets were about $120.

The things gonna sell out in seconds.

I hope the $40 tickets aren't some gimmick, where there are only 50 available at that rate or something.

I like that one. If I had to pick an all time favorite song, it would be "New Years Day", (yeah I know, Its one of the "hits", but its the best). Ive actually been getting more into their music lately. I'm a fan of the 80's stuff, but was never really interested in the newer stuff, though...planning on buying The Best of 1990?2000. Well see.

Fans had organised on u2fanz.com to blow up red balloons during One Tree Hill and release them when Bono sang And the moon has turned red over One Tree Hill.

Nobody knew that the song would be dedicated to the miners, and their names would start scrolling on the screen just a few seconds after that moment.

You can watch it here, it was an amazing emotional moment last night (not my footage, I was too busy blowing up balloons for the family to film it).

I'd forgotten that song had a New Zealand connection, very cool that they played it.

How did you like the show otherwise?

I'd completely forgotten to post the pictures and two videos I took at the Munich show in Septmber, here they are (all taken with my mobile phone, I was the only idiot in the crowd apparently who took the no cameras thing seriously):

During Mysterious Ways, the accompanying video was like the opening credits of a Bond film

Great to see these guys are still rockin it around the world. And nice to see by your pictures yankee that they still draw a huge crowd, even in stadiums(and very very few artists can do that today).

But ONE NZ date. Wow guys, let's saturate the market with too many play dates. Next thing you know they'll criminally underplay Europe for years with a mere handful of dates on the continent each tour. Oh wait..... :p

So, everyone who has an iTunes account/app/whatever has a new free U2 album. I listened to about half in the car today. So far, so bland. Sounds like Coldplay.

Just gave the album a listen then. I'm mixed. On first listen i'm a lot warmer to the album than I was No Line On The Horizon when I heard that for the first time but I grew to really like that album which leaves me wondering if Songs Of Innocence won't have the lasting impact or growth of NLOTH. But highlights so far Cedarwood Road, Volcano, Raised by Wolves and Iris. A surprisingly solid middle section of the album which is generally where an album starts to drop off.

I've given it a few listens. It's just sort of there. I get the impression they worked really hard on it (IIRC, their new album was supposed to be out earlier this year but they postponed it) but when they finished they realized it wasn't very good so they decided to cut their losses and give it away.

At this point, if you were ranking all their albums, I think you'd have to put their last three as the bottom three.

    The Replacements.

And you can't possibly imagine how bitter I am that they're playing a concert a stone's throw from my parents' house.

Rolling Stone's reviews have been an absolute farce for several decades.

My recommendation: skip the fifth rate song about Bono discovering Punk Rock and back to the source:

Rolling Stone, back when it wasn't a farce, rated it the best album of the 80s (ahead of much of the cream of U2's catalogue). I wholeheartedly agree.

Or if you want something new from an 80s rock icon (albeit not particularly well-known to the general public) Bob Mould has a great new album out
