it's obviously a classic, but it was recorded and released in 1979 so an odd pick for best album of the 80's.

the album didn't really have any kind of impact in the U.S. at least until the 80s. It didn't really become one of the bedrocks of my collection until about 83 after its influence had time to percolate.

Last night I watched Grosse Point Blank on Netflix. It's a late 90s movie partly about a 10 year high school graduation, so it features an 80s-rock heavy soundtrack, including Rudie Can't Fail. I'd never think of that as anything but an 80s song although technically you're right of course.

Iirc, it was recorded and released in the UK in 79, but not released until 80 in the US. Thus it's included in that RS list.
And the point is that it's brilliant, unlike the latest U2 offering.

And the GBP soundteack is awesome, as is the film. Kudos to to Cusack et al for putting such a great collection of tracks together.

    Time flies.

The first U2 image the day after the election was this one of Adam with the caption: Everything You Know Is Wrong.

Going back to the 80's topic I'd personally say the album of the decade is Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden that actually sails not too far away from The Joshua Tree mixed with a bit of Rattle and Hum but with more ambition than either...

Talk Talk had three great albums: It's My Life, The Colour Of Spring and Spirit of Eden. The first two are my personal favorites and I still listen to some of those songs.
