Not the best game ATM.
Really disappointed with Greece, they didn't even try to do anything by themselves. Considering that Sweden has managed to do just two goals in all the friendlies leading up to the Euro, two goals in one game was much more than I had hoped for.
The big question for Spain is how tight they can play in back against real competition.
How would this sound for the semis (the 4 current group leaders):
Portugal - Germany
Netherlands - Spain (
I went to the Public Viewing Area here in Salzburg last night to watch Sweden-Greece with some friends from work. Pretty good atmosphere thanks to the swarm of Swedish fans. Not many Greeks (I suspect they were all at Greek restaurants) and pretty quite neutral crowd. The place exploded when Ibrahimovic scored. Still, the PVAs are a bit of a disappointment here in Austria, except for maybe the one in Vienna. A big reason: the beer. It's expensive (?4.20 per 0.5 liter/pint) and its slop (Carlsberg). Locals are mainly heading to bars/restaurants/beergardens/etc where they can watch the game on a big screen, sitting down and drink good beer at a reasonable price. Thursday, for example, I'm heading to the Augustiner Bräu with a group from work to watch Austria-Poland. I may head back to the SVA for the semis, we'll see.
Anyway some pictures:

And one last thing: when you go somewhere that has an incredibly large number of Swedes, wouldn't you expect a fair number of curvalicious blonds? Well, you'd be disappointed. I know I was. Where's the Swedish National Bikini Team when you need it.
So, I'm gathering that Germany loss is a pretty big deal? And that the one goal in that game is the sequence to watch if you're not a soccer fan, but want to see the beauty of the game? Is that on YouTube somewhere?
I can't find it at the moment but it will be soon, undoubtedly.
The one I'm referring to was the one where, I believe, every member of the team had the ball before the goal was scored, and each member made a fluid pass that was made of pure win (or at least that's how the si.com EUFA blog described it)
the 1st goal for Croatia?
Inty, try having a look through the BBC's video highlights
I was hoping to avoid something like that, Spike!
Well, it was the only one I could find
It's probably in here, Inty.
Or here, but get it before UEFA does!
Next Germany match is Monday. Let's hope that they got the bad stuff out of their systems and will play well.
Turkey 2, Czech 2
Portugal 2, Switzerland 1
I'll back the Czechs to beat Turkey. 2-0.
Stupid last minute double
I must say, even though Germany won today, I am seriously concerned about the match against Portugal. The Germans did NOT play well today. Better than they did against Croatia? That's what everyone says, but they most certainly did not command control of the match as they should have against such a weak team as Austria. The big guns for Germany haven't really been stepping up very much, save Poldi of course. And the young Super Mario was downright embarrassing today with his little performance in the Austrian goal area. To spectacularly miss once was embarrassing but to miss twice in such a fashion was unacceptable. Extremely disappointing for the young talent.
As a side note, WTH was with that ref? I agree with the ESPN commentator who said he was far too "fussy" and seemed to be one of those officials who think the match is all about them. As if they are the main attraction. "Constant bickering" is something parents slap their children with, not a reason for the official to eject BOTH managers from the field. Shameful. Nice to know the officials are as idiotic and full of themselves in football as they are in baseball.
I hadn't expected Germany to win this game. Kind of glad we did though.
Although people kept saying Portugal would be the better players and bla bla bla.
Yay. We won.
The better side won. But I don't know why Portugal didn't turn up.
Germany will probably play Croatia again, and I think that they won't lose again against them, so I pip Germany to reach the final. But they'll need to pull something out of the bag to beat Spain or Netherlands.
Portugal's defence has always been their Achilles' Heel, and it showed today. Attacking they're great (although when it comes to strikers I only rate Nuno Gomes), especially with players like Deco, Ronaldo, Quaresma, Nani and Simao, but their defence was sloppy.
Good play by Germany though, especially for Schweinsteiger's first goal.
Germany won't play Italy.
