I'll have to watch both seasons again sometime. I didn't think I'd like the show (in fact, I think it was several episodes in to series 1 before I had even heard of it), but it's been well worth watching. I'm glad the U.K. isn't just making detective shows and costume dramas. Also, my favourite line from series 1 has to be "Save me, Barry!". That was perfect.
Looks like you weren't the only one taken with that line! http://www.google.com/images?q=Save+me+Barry (^ imagey spoilers)
Doesn't the US version of shameless have Emmy Rossum in it? That alone would have it win out over any version of Skins they do When did we ever just make those things? Ever heard of Doctor Who, Life on Mars or Primeval? Plus our classic comedies are unbeatable.
I started at season 3 too. It's a good starting point. That opening scene with Cookie and the crash into Effy's dad's car is a classic.
I've not seen a full trailer, just the teaser where the cast are falling naked. I didn't pick up much from that, other than that they've cast skinny kids rather than overweight ones. It's becoming fairly standard for British TV to shoot special teasers for new series - the Being Human one is doing the rounds now, too.
If nothing else I at least like the cast they have for the redo. Okay, so I added in Shameless to the thread title. I know it's BBC but I'm not going to start a new thread for another Brit comedy that most here won't watch. I will admit as I said above that I had reservations about the US remake. And the opening monologue didn't help since it's delivered in a way that undermines what the original version showed, but after that they did a good job. The casting is good and I prefer Cameron Monaghan to Gerard Kearns as Ian. When they stop doing direct copies of the first season episodes is when we'll see what this group is made of, but so far the important character chemistries are there.
Nice to see Channel 4 at least making some original TV for once, not surviving on imported US shows and making awful reality programmes.
Besides Big Brother, all they ever seem to run are shows like The Simpsons, Big Bang Theory, Ugly Betty, Friends & Desperate Housewives none of which are home-made. Shameless, Skins & Misftis are relatively recent shows, Channel 4 should do more like them. ITV at least makes frequent detective dramas like Poirot, Marple, Frost, Morse & Midsomer Murders.
IIRC, Channel 4 made Ultraviolet, Porterhouse Blue, Traffik, G.B.H., The Camomile Lawn, Melissa, Nightingales... I.T.V. do churn out 2-hour-long police/murder mystery shows, but I think Ch 4 do better quality dramas, they just don't do them so often.
I need to catch up on the Inbetweeners too. Ultraviolet was the first modern UK drama I saw, and what got me interested in actively looking for more.
Is the Being Human teaser geo-locked at all, and is it on the regular BBC site? I refuse to watch the US reboot on principle. Any clues yet on when Being Human will air?
I've no idea if the promo is location-specific. I saw it on Dark Horizons here. It may well be on YouTube.
