It appears to be a chock full of goodies that only will encompass the 6 movies, TCW movie and series and Rebels. Legends....well.......

Yeah, It's essentially a canon primer.

I hope it tells us about planets and ships.

The cover lists: Characters, Creatures, Locations, Technology and Vehicles on the cover. So yeah, I assume we'll get information on planets and ships.

It would be nice to see some art work in there. Especially of ships and battle stations.

I'm wondering just how much backlash there will be on the Fleet Junkies thread after the book comes out.

For over a thousand generations, the Fleet Junkies were the guardians of Super Star Destroyer lengths in the Old Canon. Before the dark times, before the Mouse.

Weren't SSD lengths one of the absolute very first things to be (re)-canonized? For obvious reasons?

Certainly the Super Star Destroyer page on SW.com has the length.

The Death Star pages don't have diameters though:

Maybe the new book will have them?

The preview pics seemed very encyclopaedia-ish. I'm thinking that it'll be the closest thing to a "canonverse" version of the previous encyclopaedia.

Three volumes won't be necessary then.

I always enjoy star wars reference books so this will be a treat. This also appears to be similar to those other ultimate star wars guides which isn't a bad thing.

I'd like to think that we'd get something that covers all the movies and TV shows equally, full of interesting details that are both from the prior works (for the new fans) and new material (for the old fans, and for the newer material).

What we'll actually get is probably something closer to the current Databank merged with material copied word-for-word from the Visual Guides.

"C-3P0 is a droid that was first introduced in A New Hope. FUN FACT: Did you know that Anakin Skywalker, the future Darth Vader, first assembled C-3P0?"

I don't think they could get three volumes if they tried right now.

You see, that's the kind of "fun fact" that's completely useless and definitely not cool. Yeah, of course we know that, book writer: we've seen Episode I! Can you tell us anything that isn't derived directly from the movies?

And I hope I'm 100% wrong - however I feel about the new stuff, I'd rather have the NEU fans get something informative as a basis for watching the new movies and TV shows, something along the lines of the old movie reference guides. The old Visual Dictionary (with its occasional silly entry) would be a good role-model.

If I were Story Group, I'd take all the obscure name-drop references in the Visual Dictionaries ("Jalavash Worm Silk", "Jewel of Zenda", "Demigod Sistros"), write them down on little pieces of paper, toss them like confetti, and reassign them to different parts of the new canon as they come down. A better trolling opportunity will never come their way again.

But what about the facts like that high-heeled shoes were used by women to increase their height?

So, like, make NEU the same as LOTF.

    Looks good.

Only two thirds of a page on Jar-Jar though? Inexcusable.

if this book is going to re-canonized a lot of legends stuff then that is going to make the people on Wookieepedia either pissed or extremely happy.

Going by what we have seen so far, I think there will be a lot of recanonisation in this book on background fluff material. Why reinvent the wheel when you have perfectly good examples in legends of manufactures, vehicles, sizes, names, species, etc.
