JCC Amph Unanswered Questions

ITT we discuss the unanswered questions or unsolved mysteries that exist in our beloved entertainment that we hold so dear. Some may call them plot holes, but how important are they to the plot? How important are they to your enjoyment of said entertainment? What theory or reasoning have you come up with in your mind to make sense of the senseless?

Here's some quick examples:

1) Does Harry sleep with his secretary Mia in Love Actually?
a) Is anyone actually in love in the movie or is it all infatuation?
2) What name does Bastian give to The Childlike Empress in The NeverEnding Story?
3) Does the top fall at the end of Inception?
4) What's in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction?
5) How did the The Dark Knight's Joker get his scars?

Aww man, those questions made me notice that tags can no longer be clicked from within threads. That took me minutes of programming. Now all that coding has been lost in time, like tears in rain.

is stating that a thread is off-topic an attempt to get it back on topic or is it merely another off-topic post?
wouldn't making an on-topic post be a better way to set it straight?

The movie is so much better because we never find out. That's often the case with a lot of these big movie questions. People are obsessed with figuring out an answer; I hope I don't ever find out. If Nolan ever came out and revealed a big scene in the screenplay that never got filmed that answered the question definitively, I would be disappointed.

I have an even stronger relationship to this one: "What did Bob whisper in Charlotte's ear?" Speaking, of course, of Lost in Translation. So many people have come up with so many theories. I would hate to know. Moments like that define art.

Was Delahunt a cop in The Departed? (I have no f’n idea)

 

I've never seen Love Actually.

 

rian johnson's new star wars trilogy will cleverly subvert this trope by taking place entirely in a bathroom.

He may claim to do so. But it will quickly become apparent that he's really only using bathroom furniture and appliances as their functional living room equivalents, if not side-lining them altogether.

-Who ordered the attempted hit on Pentangelli in Godfather II, Roth or Michael? This was never clear to me when I watched the movie.

-Was Jack killed in a hate crime in Brokeback Mountain, or did he really die as his wife told Ennis?

-Is Suicide Squad the worst movie of the 2000s so far? (Yes)

I’m also assuming the question of how Anakin/Luke’s lightsaber was found isn’t even “on the table” anymore, since Luke is the only person in-universe who would have known to ask. What a disgrace.

-Not so much an unanswered question about the movie itself, but instead a blatant set-up for a sequel that never materialized: What was on Page 47 of the Book of Secrets in National Treasure 2?

-Here’s a meta one: What was Nolan’s original plan for The Dark Knight 3 before Ledger died? (TDKR, in my view, stands alongside Spider-Man 3 as the worst superhero threequel ever, so I’d be interested to know)

-How much better could the prequel trilogy have been if Lucas hadn’t made the abomination TPM and instead started it (roughly) where AOTC starts? (I’ll never get over this one.)
