And that's the case in 99% of fandoms.

The whole idea of hating the author because one expected something specific from the work is...beyond me.

The 'consumer only matters' mentality baffles me. It seems the strangling of artistic expression to me.

All Star Wars films are good at worst.
ROTJ is not the worst of the OT.

And not really related to Star Wars only, but "a film, game, or book being the first one is not a good reason for it being the best."

I thank Lucas for creating SW but despise the decision to change things and the SE's with no equal version of previous versions.

A lot of people are touched by whatever they experienced first.
I like others saw the OOT first growing up and it set up the SW universe.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was the first Potter book, not my most favorite but I look back fondly on it. Without it, I wouldn't be a fan of HP.
Without the OOT, a lot of us wouldn't be SW fans.
I hope later stories could be just as good, if not better than the first story you experienced but if not, oh well.
If you experienced the Silent Vader, Shaw Anakin, Greedo shot first, Lapti Nek first, wouldn't you be wary of changes to those scenes?
You only get one chance to make a first impression.

Of itself no it isn't but there are many factors why that often tends to be the case and that's hardly a fault. :)

Kermit the Frog has deeper wisdom than Yoda.

I, and I'm sure most SW fans on the boards, experienced all of the above first, and I know I wasn't wary about any of those changes. But to each their own, FS. I certainly can't knock you for wanting to see the version you prefer. :)

Some people just aren't creatures of change. If something struck a chord with them, why want it changed?

After mulling this little conundrum over for a long time, upon watching them all at the weekend for the gazillionth time I have finally come to this decision:

Yoda should not have any kind of major role in the prequels AT ALL. He could have had a cameo, just to remind us that he was around and shown how he fit into things, but other than that his appearance is totally unneccessary and really demystifies the character and actually the whole Jedi Order. In the OT I see Yoda as the last remaining survivor of a whole bunch of great masters of the Jedi Order, and that there was once a lot of Jedi like him. When he taught Luke and did wonderful things like lifting the X-Wing and giving the "luminous beings" speech, this is a glimpse of the incredible things that Jedi were once capable of. Then in the PT, he is the only Jedi who has that kind of power with the Force and is in an entirely different league to all the other Jedi. He is so intrinsically important to the entire story that it's almost ridiculous that he's the one Jedi apart from Obi-Wan who just so happens to get out of Order 66 alive. He's there at Luke and Leia's births, he has a huge duel with Palpatine himself, he is the best swordsman in the galaxy, he teaches every single Jedi throughout their youth... suddenly he's one of the most special and important people who ever lived. It takes all the magic and mystery out of his character to find out that there is nothing else to reveal about the Jedi or the Force because he's in fact the greatest Jedi of them all. You;d think that revealing that would make him more awesome but in fact it just saps the energy and scope out of his story.

And I'm not even going to get into the lightsaber duels. Suffice it to say that the Yoda/Dooku duel is my single most disliked moment in all six films.

So yeah, he should have just made a token appearance, establishing that he is one of the many, many Jedi who used to roam the galaxy (and who happened to know Obi-Wan), who has ended up all on his own still fighting the fight, as the small, quiet little last guy standing. Having him occupy essentially the exact same role as a character in both trilogies is just no fun at all.

Darth Maul's amount of screen time and ultimate demise in TPM were correct. No need to show more of him in the film or to have him survive into the rest of the prequels.

I think Yoda teaching the younglings was a way of covering the plot hole of Qui Gone being Obi-Wan's master in episode 1.

Also, the implication Yoda would instruct Obi-Wan about how to become a Force Ghost at the end of ROTS.

empire was just beautifully written and a great way to lead into episode 6 because so much depth was discovered within the characters....it's amazing how great it was of a movie but yet still didn't solve anything but YET still set up for the finale,ROTJ.....I understand it's all opinion but to me it was just so beautiful and picture-perfect storytelling and a great midpoint of a trilogy. Really revolutionized what a sequel is in movies and showed what a sequel is supposed to be.

I think the scene in ROTS where Vader kills the younglings is one of the worst in the entire saga.

    Unpopular Opinons:

Rebels is a better show than TCW

ROTS is a more complete film than ROTJ
R2-D2 and C3P0 should not have been in the prequels at all

Mace Windu is nothing more than a watered down Samuel L Jackson

Yoda should not have used a lightsaber in the PT

AOTC is a much worse film than TPM

The lightsaber duel in ESB is far and away the best duel in the entire Franchise

Darth Maul should appear as the leader of a violent rebel faction in Rebels

The Pod racing was one of the best parts of TPM

The first act of ANH is one of the best acts of the entire saga

The Phantom Menace is my favorite of the prequels.
    I don't hate Jar Jar.
I like the idea of virgin birth.
    The podracing is great.
Hayden Christensen is terrible only in Attack of the Clones.
Count Dooku is the best villain of the entire saga.
I likes the lines ''I don't like sand."
    Grievous is a stupid villain.
The first duel in ROTS is great.
The clone troopers are better than the stormies.
I like Anakin's visual in ROTS.
Hayden Christensen is a good actor in ROTS.
    I hate the fighting Yoda..
R2 and 3PO should not be at the prequels.
I don't mind Vader's NOO at the end of ROTS.
A New Hope is my favorite movie of the saga.
The second act of ANH is boring.
I don't like Empire Strikes Back.
    I don't mind Ewoks.
I prefer Victory Celebration to Yub Nub.

Well, TCW and to a certain extent the PT, have made people pretty angry with the Jedi, from what I've seen the past few years.

    - The Tatooine sections of ANH are more grounded in authentic "humanity" than anything in ESB.
    - Anakin's Theme from TPM is the best piece of Star Wars music Williams ever wrote.
    - The best quiet scenes in the PT were so good they made me long for a Star Wars film that devotes little if any time to kinetic spectacle and accompanying banter.
