Exactly my point. I love footy ... and love umpiring it. Get to watch it REALLY close (sometimes too close :p). Knowing the rules does help when watching it on TV sometimes.

Glimpsing past this thread I couldn't help but notice... it may be a bit old now, but hey Toddi, did/do you umpire in baseball games? ...or was it just the footy? :)

I just had a go at baseball myself this season (usually a tennis man). My neighbour got me involved and it's a very interesting game. I never knew there was a rule on the third strike out that enabled you to run if you swung and the catcher missed the ball. I stood there dumbfounded as every shouted out "RUN!!". [face_laugh]

I have played baseball before. Was a fill in for A-D's team last year. It was fun, wouldn't mind doing it again this year.

I have umpired baseball at school level ... but never higher. My sport for umpiring is Aussie Rules football. I'm a Level 2 accredited field umpire (yep, the one who's getting yelled at the most), and Level 2 accredited goal umpire. Level 4 accreditation is AFL standard, but I'm too old for that now.

Won't be umpiring this year, but hopefully next year.

I must admit also to being lost in the rules of baseball somewhat too! Tis fun though! :)

Oh, cool. Field umpiring for AFL would definitely keep your fitness up. ;)

Most sports are good fun. ;) Cheers!
