CT Vader vs Old Darth SIdious

So I know that Sidious was very old, but still had some power (and some say he could create worm holes or something). And Vader was very slow due to him being more machine than man. But if they were to fight (lets say in the same place Windu fought Palpatine), who would have won?

Sidious will win Darth Vader with his eyes shut.

Sidious still had immense power, even in old age. I'm sure his power didn't diminish much at all, it may even grown with increased wisdom, it was the context of the situation in which he was able to be defeated. This is no competition at all for Sidious, there is no way Vader could defeat him. I even doubt Anakin Skywalker before his injuries would stand a chance against the most powerful force user of his time.

The entire reason Vader wants Luke's help in the films is because he can't take Sidious on his own. Not even a contest.

 

That's because Sidious was too distracted with killing Luke. Had he known five seconds before Vader made his choice what was about to happen, he would've zapped Vader along with Luke.

 

Okay, Sidious would beat Vader overall. But what about a lightsaber only battle? Who's better with the blade: Vader or Sidious?

 

In the original films I think the intension was that the "masters" like Yoda and the Emporer had moved beyond the need for lightsabers.

I would say as well that in the originals Darth Vader/Anakin is not really setup as the most powerful Jedi ever, powerful yes but the story isn't dependant on him being the most powerful as it became in the prequels.

Really there are a lot of grey areas with the Emporer in the original films, is he old or is his appearance effected by his darkside use? is he even mortal in human terms or could the darkside keep him alive for a very long period? indeed could Yoda being 900 years old not just be a result of his species being long lived but his power in the force?

 

A win is a win in my book, deception or not.

 

Vader had to be willing to die in order to take Sidious out. And that's what happened. Plus, Vader had the special motivation to save Luke.

 

It's just like the "T. rex VS Alien Queen" question. Even if Vader does win the fight, he'll be too damaged to survive the conflict.

 

Sidious would cut Vader into 1000 pieces before Vader can even ignite his lightsaber. Sidious' fight with Mace Windu was so fast, they were said to be moving in and out of existence.

This really is no contest, we're talking about the most powerful Sith lord here.

 

Vader. The only thing that guarantees Sidious in a lightsaber battle is force augmentation. If we look solely at their lightsaber skills, Vader is better. Not vastly better, but better nonetheless.

 

Sidious wins every time.

The only reason Vader killed Sidious is because he caught Sidious by surprise. And we know that Sidious' force lightning fried Vader's suit which is why Vader dies shortly after.

In any duel Sidious lights up Vader with force lightning and Vader is done. No contest.

That said, had Vader not lost at Mustafar and never gotten into the suit, he would have been able to take out Sidious within a few years of becoming a Sith.

 

Disagree here. Vader is a lot slower with the suit while Sidious was on Yoda & Mace's level with a saber.

 

Darth Sidious was too sadistic. He dropped his guard allowing Darth Vader with his cold and calculating demeanour to cease his chance. If he was to overthrow the Emperor and rule in his place he would have chosen a time of his own to stick the lightsaber in his back. Presumably that is why the Emperor kept those bodyguard warriors as protection.

 

Age is irrelevant when it comes to Force-users. Sidious was more powerful than he has ever been. Vader simply didn't have the same powers, nor the capacity to learn everything thanks to his suit.

Vader just annihilated a flying ship by disintegrating the hyperdrive using the force. In the same story, he shrugged off a lighstaber blow to the back like nothing. For some reason I don't think Sidious would walk away from that unharmed. Also recently, he force pushed Palpatine out of the line of danger proving that he can surprise him.

Vader is more cunning (calculated rather than overconfident), better armed and has comparable force power. I say Vader.

Sidious knows why he should keep guards around.
