    I think that's a wonderful idea, Gina! [:D]

Wait - did I see the word "campground"? Oh, hell no! I don't camp. [face_not_talking] My idea of roughing it is a hotel room where I have to walk more than a few feet down the hall to get ice. :p

No campground eh? Hmmmm.... how would you feel about a cabin on a cruiseship?

Well, I don't think Gina and Tim are paying attention to this thread anymore so..... ;)

Seriously though, it is a distinct possibility. There has been discussion of a Saga cruise, getting other FanForces involved, maybe a minor Star Wars guest, and this could be the BIG thing that Vaderpalooza could grow into. In fact, the more people who are interested, the cheaper it would become.
Echo7Solo, would you like to chime in?

Yes, Tim... Please do! (He's been talking to me about it for months now. I think it's time to go ahead and wheel it out to everyone else.)

I'll take a cruise ship cabin over a tent any day!

    You big flirt! :p

Maybe our minor Star Wars guest could be Captain Typho!

I have been talking to a cruse line as well as a travel agent about putting together a Star Wars cruse. Basically it will be a three to five day cruse porting out of Galveston, TX in May of 2007 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ANH. The cruse line hasn't set prices yet but I expect to hear back from my contact in the next 10 days. For every 8 cabins or 16 people in a group we get a free birth or one person can sail free or the credit can be split up among the other 16 in the group. So basically the more people we get the cheaper it will be.

Think of it as a con on a ship. Also it is a real vacation. Plus if you have somebody in your life that is not a fan it gives them something to do. You are not stuck in the same place, you are at sea. You have a room and all meals are paid for so eat as much as you want.

There is on board entertainment like casinos, pools, arcade, bars, comedy shows as well as Vegas style shows. Obviously we will at the very least be watching ANH or the OT. If possible we might be able to squeeze in the entire saga but that depends on how long the cruse is. Remember we will still be stopping at ports and there is a lot of on board things to do. Did C3 have a spa?

Right now it is still very early and in the planning stages but if this works.... oh man, can you think of a better vacation?

I think a Star Wars Cruise WOULD be awesome. If only we could make the boat exclusively SW without skyrocketing the price or get Lucasfilm on board without skyrocketing the price!

I also think a small shindig for the SAGA sooner than later would be cool if I can make it.

A cruise would be kewl but if it is in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of ANH, I might wanna go to C4 instead, no offence. Money is tight lately and I see no real end in sight. I'm not opposed to the idea and I already have a bit stowed away the hubby doesn't know about.[face_whistling]

As far as getting togeather earlier, we do have Mid-South Con coming up in a few months and I intend to focus on making a good show for the SMT there. I know I need help with the "Lady Vader" costume, making adjustments and installing fans in the helmet. Santa is supposed to bring Peanut a little Vader costume so we can roam the halls...hehehehe.

I am more than happy to help plan the Vaderpalooza and I know of a place where there are cabins and campgrounds not far from Memphis. The only problem would be setting up a big enough screen and all that jazz......Anyhoo, I am in agreement with Gina, I think we should wait till the first of the year to start our planning. I, for one, am overwhelmed with the Holiday stuff and will be able to think with a clearer head, as clear as mine gets, in January.

    So there's my $.02.

I was gonna say... it sounds fun, but nothing can come over C4, which is in the planning stages.

I probably wouldn't have the money to do both. :(

I didn't know C4 was official yet. But if you say it is in the planning stages then Lucasfilm must have given the green light on it. If you have any official information on it please post it.

I also completely understand why some people would prefer to go to C4. 30,000 people as opposed to 2,000 at the most. Plus you will have exclusives, bigger celebrities and national media coverage. Who knows, you might even end up on VH1. If there is going to be a C4 I would very much like to go myself. The thing is my wife is not a huge Star Wars fan. I'm pretty sure there are quite a few people out there who are in the same boat as me. What I propose is a family vacation that is both a chance to celebrate Star Wars as well as actually have a REAL vacation with sand and sun. The price will be on scale with C4 if not a little cheaper.

I'm not asking everybody to jump on board with this but I am saying if you are interested let me know. I'm sure some people would very much like to do this.

    The cruise idea sounds great!

I had made mention before on the SMT boards about having mini-Vaderpalooza and a full blown Vaderpalooza event for the whole world to attend. But no one listens to me... :(

Not to offend anyone, but I'm not making plans to attend Vaderpalooza. There are auditions coming up in the Spring for internships in the summer, and I need to concentrate on getting one. That means I will be travelling out of state a lot this spring. [face_worried]

So I don't want to have made plans to attend, and then have to be out of state when it's held.

    Kudos to my poor car.

Sal, Joe and I took your suggestion to heart which is why I put up the Saga Sleepover. I propose we rename it to Sal's Saga Sleepover since he is El Presidente. All in favor?

Depending on who all is going to be involved in the planning, I'll have to see what I'll be able to do in regards to Vaderpalooza. I'm going to start substitute teaching again next semester and with running the costuming meets (I intend to have a subject for each meeting to make the costuming as easy as possible for newbies) and becoming involved in the SCA (something I have wanted to do for a while), I don't know how much free time I will have.

There's also TC!3 to plan (providing we have one) and I really want to do more this year, the Haunt, and my own sewing and projects I want to work on (if all works out, by this time next year I hope to be a good bootmaker.)

(Damn I've got alot planned for this next year.)

"Viva El Presidente!" - Vyvian, "The Young Ones"

As regards Vaderpalooza - The Saga Cruise and C4, scheduling and cost are both a factor. Once we get a date for C4, the cruise can be scheduled around it. While a lot of people will only be able to afford one or the other, we need to (from a practical standpoint) think about those who could do both (both in and out of SMT) - to get the maximum number of reservations.

But, as stated earlier, details can wait until the new year, and more of the stuff that is out of our hands is settled (C4 dates and locations, cruise line itineraries and prices, etc.).

On a personal note, as we've said before, while SW Celebrations sound like a blast, our next goal is the San Diego Con - lots of SW stuff and lots of other stuff too. Plus, we'll have to help man the Bushi Tales booth. ;)

EDIT: On the Star Wars Celebration forum, the current rumor is Dallas being chosen for C4. Just a rumor, but imagine a weekend at Celebration, topped off by driving down to Galveston to get on a cruise ship for 4 days to relax. Sure, it's expensive, but it's nice to dream...
For the one year they did the Big Easy Con in New Orleans, they had a cruise afterwards, and I heard it was a great time. Sorry we missed it.

Ooh! Dallas would be awesome--Although I guess it isn't that much closer from Memphis, is it? It seems a heckuvalot closer from Little Rock.
