I grew up listening to Van Halen with David Lee Roth, so I'll have to say him.

The band just hasn't been the same since he left.

    I agree with Darth Mischievous.

Not only that, but the overall 'sound' of the music, not just the vocals, seemed to diminish. Not the quality of the audio, or the skills of Sammy and Eddie, etc., just that it wasn't the same kind of Van Halen. That said, my favorite Sammy-Halen was 5150.

I'd put Hot for Teacher or Everybody Wants Some up against just about any Sammy-Halen song. ;)

I loved Sammy's work pre-Van Halen, btw. Standing Hampton is one of my favorite all-time albums.

well, if we could get into a time machine and have the DLR of old, i'd say zippity- bop!!! diamond dave, all the way. but if i have to pick one of the three in terms of RIGHT NOW (no pun intended), i'd actually want to front them myself. or just have them be a kick ass instrumental band.

Has anyone listened to III with Gary Cherone? I'd be curious to know what people thought.

    I couldn't agree more.

3 wasn't too bad with the exception of Eddie singing lead on the last track. Yuck! You really don't want to hear that track, but the rest isn't all that bad.

OK this needs to be up'd so we can get more Sammy votes... :p Not OK for Dave to be winning... ;)

Has anyone listened to III with Gary Cherone? I'd be curious to know what people thought.

I thought it was absolute garbage. Not because of Gary. I actually thought he was fine. It was crap because the MUSIC sucked. Pointless rambling arrangements of songs with no melodies and too much Ed noodling randomly on his guitar. Maybe Dave and Sammy actually help craft the songs? Or maybe Ed needs to start drinking again... :p

i'll say it again, you GOTTA go with the original in this case. DLR sings songs like "Ice-Cream Man," "Hot For Teacher," and "Panama." he should win the poll just for his contribution on those three songs alone.

It is rumoured that Sammy Hagar is back playing with Van Halen again, giving it a try to see how things go. Sounds favourable for a reunion! I think this would rock. Eddie is too good a guitarist for him to not be recording cuz he has no singer at all.
