Quinten had about 5 ice-creams, and Alf whacked me with the end of his lghtsaber when I told him I was given one without even asking.

Melting buns were the 3rd highlight of the day, behind the kids and another thing I am not at liberty to discuss.

Oh and another highlight is when I spent half an hour with this kid slashing 'invisible droids' and dodging evil 'gas balloons'.

Its going to be pretty hard to put into words what we did today.

As a start, here's a few pictures from the green room, taken by the lovely AD. This was as we were all getting ready and its a pity I don't have any pics of the party room itself.

But none of today was about us - it was all about these amazing kids. I was so caught up in the party vibe with all these smiling faces that it was only sunk in afterwards on the way home that despite all the problems they might have, they can smile, laugh and for those that are able, do the chicken dance.

Of the 1100 kids, I reckon I shook hands with 900 of them, and only one got really freaked out. A few deaf kids were vigourously signing at me and I could do was nod in agreement, another got on the dance floor with me (why didn't they put that on the news?), and I got lots of hugs from other kids, but one little girl underlined how, no matter what your condition, you can always have a little Star Wars in your life. I was about to shake her hand, when her carer said, "She can't see. Just come closer so she can touch your face". In the short time I've been wearing the Tie helmet, that's the first time that's ever happened. I don't know what she made of the Tie pilot, but she certainly made an impression on me.

And as much as it pains an Imperial to say it, thanks to my Jedi body guards for the day, for guiding me though the maze of tables, dragging me everywhere for photos and returning my blaster when it got occasionally swiped from my holster.

Thanks you so much Variety for the work you do. Thank you Adalia for getting us there. And thanks to the kids. Never have I had such a rewarding costuming experience.

Its a good idea, but if you saw how chaotic (in a good way) things were today, it may be a little impractical. While we didn't get any photos of the party there were plenty of carers taking pictures with the kids.

Speaking of which, if someone decides to start a SAFF photo caption contest, then I suggest we start with this.....

It was messy to say the least! But we fixed it, Aeil has enough hair to make the right style for the gown anyway! So it was all good!

Once we were getting changed out of costume, the head was sitting there, and someone said I should put it on for a photo, but I knew that wasn't the best idea! :p
