Well it appears that the batting isn't as easy as people are predicting.
Having said that, Gilsepie has bowled really well these last 2 games.

Can't get as excited though, they're only ODI's.

And sad about Ben Hollioake. Tragic really.

Yeah, we dont know what the pitches are like...they might not be great for batting.

And that being said, throught the tests, the good batting pitches never really helped teams to avoid self-destructing.

Had a lame draw against the Poms. We need to win the final game to square the series.

Adam Parore has just announced his retiremnt from test cricket after the next match against the poms. Do you think we could borrow Gilchrist when he leaves?

    The Zimbabwe tour is off.

    And Gillie is ours.

You can have Phil Emery. After all, that is why Gillie had to go to WA, because the NSW selectors wouldnt put him in front of Emery.

Hopefully there will be some games against the Zimbabwians in some form. It's a shame that the tour is called off for political reasons.

The NSW selectors asked Gillie back about 3 years ago. Shutting the gate after the horse has bolted for sure there.

Any news on the Hollioke funeral?

The Aussies want to reschedule the tour for maybe 2004. Nothing now, unless maybe SA will host the matches.

It doesn't look like anything will go ahead soon then.

Another tie between Australia and South Africa. How exciting! We only just got there in the end. Our batting needs to pick up.

Jimmy Maher has certainly proved his worth to the team.

My lineup if everyone was healthy for the next match:

    Gilchrist
    Maher
    Ponting
    Lehmann
    Martyn
    Bevan
    Hayden
    Watson
    Warne
    Gillsepie
    McGrath

    Gilly!!!! Unreal!

Did anyone see Brett Lee get a ball smashed back at him and hit him in the cheek? Ouch! It was pretty cool though.

    :)

That's a 4-0 lead from the 5 games (with another tie between the two), and there' only one more to go. What the hell happened to them in the VB series?

    Two more to go...

The Aussies were the best team by the end of the VB series. After losing their first 3, they started finding form, and by the end, were definitely the best team.

Unfortunately, NZ fixed the bonus points, so we couldnt get in the final. Had we been there, we would have easily won it.

and I didnt see Lee get hit. Must have come off the bat well.

I agree we finish stronger, we've won 7 out of the 8 against the Proteas and the other one was the tie.

Watch Sports Tonight if you can. It was fair dinkum flying when it got him.

Let it go! you missed out on the final :p

Did you hear about our comeback to win the final test against the poms? We draw the series and jumped ahead of them on the Test rankings. We are now 4th. :)

Sorry I haven't been contributing to this thread the last week or so. I haven't had too much time to take notice of the cricket and it's been getting away from me.

Who were the big run getters in our chase?

And I agree. It's always a good win against the Poms.

Gillie got 51 off 27. I dont know what Hayden got.

Ponting got 91 off 102 ish, and Lehmann got 90-something from 90-something.

Other than that, there was a big collapse late, with 4 quick wickets

Hmmm... thanks for the info. I'll try and catch some of the game tonight... if it's on tonight that is.

    We lost! :(

Bevan seems to have been the only one to put up a fight. Quite pathetic. Jonty Rhodes is a quality player though. Would love to have him in the middle order for us.

    Crap. We lost to Pakistan.

Yeah I hear ya about cricket withdrawls. The games aren't televised and they're played at night. Have to wait until morning just hear the result.

Just thought I would let you know that Shoiab Akhtar has officially broken the 100mph record in a game against the Kiwis

It's under dispute now. The official equipment broke down and the official at the ground brought his speed camara from home.

    Sounds a bit suss.

Agh, the New Zealanders on UseNet have suddnely realised (with a thud) why Australia doesn't take any risks in going to the sub continent to play cricket. It's amazing their backflip on the issue as well. If Ausrtalia backs out they're whimps, if New Zealand back out they're sensible.

Another one of those funny Kiwi quirks we love about you lot.

    :p
