Vector to Infinity

Everywhere I turned....more fighters....the noose was closing fast

 

"Uh, uh.....this Jedi don't play that!!!" I ran straight at three incoming Interceptors

 

The deflectors really didn't appreciate flying through all that debris

 

"Got to make a break for it before the shields let go." I murmured.......R6 agreed

 

Climbing away hard, shields on full and guns shut down, we managed to slip their trap

 

Hitting low orbit, and knowing we had NO HYPERDRIVE, I swung the ship to port on a wing-stand, and dove for the deck

 

The Interceptors were not impressed....they followed suit

 

The swarm behind us would not relent.....I had to find a way to shake them

 

The X-Wing groaned against the dive-speed, and I thought it would tear itself apart when I finally pulled out

 

Using the Force to focus all my attentions to the HUD and flying the ship, I skimmed the deck

 

The HUD showed a promising landscape ahead...if I could just make it there in one piece

 

The fighters were still close....too close

 

The terrain took a mighty spill, and the canyon yawned open before us......"Hang on, R6!!!"

 

*WWWWWAAaaaaaHHHHHH!!!!* R6 screamed as we dropped into the crevasse

 

Most of the Interceptors stayed topside and shredded the tops of the canyon walls with laser-fire to keep us hemmed in

 

No less than ten ships followed us into the maze

 

We must've looked like some kind of macabre pod-race to the onlookers above

 

Swerving within inches of the rock faces, I wheeled the ship back and forth, the Interceptors staying with me, guns blazing

 

Ahead, the scanner showed a long, straight stretch coming up

 

"Now's our chance, R6....point the IC aft."

 

The interceptors were packed nose-to-tail, so I knew they would be hard-pressed to avoid the 'arc-n-spark' to come

 

I wound the X-Wing around the last corner, counted down from three, and let loose the IC

 

Six of the fighters swung into the straight-away right before the ion-blast hit them full on

 

Like a flying stunt-show gone horribly awry, fighters went everywhere except where they belonged

 

The unguided fighters peppered the walls of the canyon, engulfing two more fighters caught unaware
