Without so much as a whistle, R6 toiled while the torps neared
I dared not lose any speed by maneuvering, but held a steady course
The torpedoes were relentless.....time was growing short
It was obvious to me that we were not going to outrun these techno-monstrosities
The mysterious ship had fallen off the scope, but the torps could not be shook
"Got to take the chance."
"Reroute the power to the IC, R6." I turned the cannon aft, and slowed the ship
"One shot, that's all we get, my friend."
The torps closed ranks, getting mere meters apart as they homed in for the kill
I fired the IC at point-blank range
The intense ionic disturbance cascaded over both torps, and they flew by aimlessly
"NOW...HARD ABOUT!!!!" I threw the X-Wing over
I retraced our tracks, and sure enough, the mysterious ship reappeared, with all guns firing
I deliberately pushed the throttles home, glancing over my shoulder as we flew into the hail of laser-fire
At close range, I fired the IC again, crippling the vessel temporarily
We were almost on top of the vessel...I looked back "Yep, still with us."
At the last possible moment, I ripped the stick back, lit the retros, and prayed
The X-Wing went 90 degrees up, and the following torps cruised right into the conning tower of the still crippled vessel
The dual blasts of those torps threw the little snub-fighter out of control
Methodically, R6 and I tag-teamed to bring the X-Wing back under command authority
I sighed heavily "Thank the Force."
The entire topside of the vessel was aflame, and it was severely adrift, explosions ripping it apart slowly
Escape pods poured from the doomed vessels' flanks
"Next time, pick on somebody your own size!" I chided......and turned once more for home
On the long trip back
