"Senator, we're making our final approach into Coruscant."
    "Very good, lieutenant."

This sounds like Natalie Portman saying the line when we know full well that it isn't Padme in the ship. Did they do this on purpose to fool us? Everything else in Star Wars seems to be pretty accurate and not magic tricks on the audience like this.

Rebel: For future reference things like this should go in Quick and Random Questions thread, or in the Continuity Problems thread.

It's over the radio. Padme IS saying that from her guidance ship.

The decoy in TPM sounded very much like Natalie Portman's "queen" voice; no reason to think they couldn't find another woman who looked and was able to sound just like the queen.

If he's a only lieutenant, perhaps he doesn't know she's the decoy.

The decoys in Episodes I and II used the same voice. Portman's dialogue was looped in to help bolster the illusion of the decoys functioning as Padme.

IIRC it sounds too much like Natalie for it to be anyone else.

EDIT: I just listened again and it's definitely her. I think they did this b/c the audience recognizes her voice, and are therefore surprised when its not her when the ship blows up. If it were someone else's voice, even if it were someone who sounded similar, the audience wouldn't be surprised b/c the voice wouldn't be familiar.

It is her voice. And it's actually Natalie walking down the ramp before it blows, too. Yes, it is to trick the audience, but George could have done that just the same by using the actual decoy, Corde.

Portman didn't do the decoy's voice in TPM.

Nope, the line is said inside the big ship. We see the characters talking.

A decoy would be pretty useless if she couldnt imitate the Senators voice.
