Victory over Britain Day

Today, my town celebrates the burning of the H.M.S. Gaspee in 1774. The Gaspee was a tax vessel that got trapped on a local sandbar. A couple of drunk townies that were tired of British taxation decided to burn the ship.

Contrary to popular belief this was really the first aggression of the Revolutionary War. The parade was this morning, the burning of the ship is tomorrow.

Huge holiday around here.

We ended up setting the White House on fire... Hmm.. maybe we should turn that into an annual event, right next to burning Guy Fawkes.

Pleas explain those allusions to somebody with no clue of American history.

 

The White House on fire happened during, I believe, the Madison administration. Dolley Madison, the First Lady, saved a famous portrait of George Washington. Britain should be dang grateful to us for helping out in the last century. This whole grudge over the Revolutionary War is SOOOOOOOOOO last millennium.

 

Hey, Britain isn't the country burning ships in commemoration.
