How can you get video clips into photoshop? Does anyone know? Or is it impossible?

If you have Adobe Premiere, you can export your movie file as an "Filmstrip" (.FLM) and load that in photoshop. What you get is very large picture displaying all individual frames at once. Alter the file at your liking and save it back to .FLM when done (be sure to merge all layers down to one). You can now import this altered. FLM file in Aobe Premiere and use it as a normal video.

Well, Adobe's Imageready (comes with Photoshop) can open Quicktime files... However, each frame is a seperate layer in a big .PSD style image... not very useful for roto work.

AFAIK Filmstrip is an Adobe internal file format, so you either need Premiere or After Effects to convert your movies to Filmstrip and edit it in Photoshop. I don´t have any of the other programs, so I don´t know if there is any other possibility.

If you have OS X you can use Cheap-O-Scope to convert Quicktime to Filmstrip and vice versa. When converting filmstrip to quicktime it compresses with Sorenson 3 so there will be a slight decrease in quality.

    Download Page

    Enjoy! :)

Open up the AVI in QuickTime Pro and Export to QuickTime movie. Choose a high quality codec like Sor3, DV, Photo-JPEG, Animation, None, or Component Video.

You may even be able to just save the AVI as a reference movie (Save As in QT Pro). That will put the AVI data in a QuickTime wrapper. I'm not sure how well other apps will handle that so if it doesn't work in Cheap-O-Scope, just export it and that will transcode the video into a QuickTime friendly format - ready for use in Cheap-O-Scope.

    :)

Edit - you can also try this great website
