I took the list straight from EV, I looked it over and really thought he covered all of the biggies.

I'm really looking forward to matches such as ''Leon vs. Cloud''

Are you referencing an old injoke?

 

I know who I want to pick, but I have a question about a couple players and their respective powers... If there was an alternate space where these characters had amazing power, and then another area where they were weak or barely above average would we include their powers in their environment


An example would be Yoda. Will he be judged as the Jedi Master in the GFFA, or could someone pull a technicality by saying Yoda has no power in a neutral battlefield (since a Jedi needs the Force to be powerful) and Yoda would then be dead weight on a team


I kinda need to know this before I take my pick, which isn't Yoda by the way


EDIT: Also, will characters only be judged by their video game exploits or are we going to include what they have done in books and movies as well (as long as it doesn't contradict)?

 

Hmm, that sounds kinda like Majik over in the Comic Book Draft. I would say it depends on the situation. Prep time could be a factor in that case. I intend to judge the non-prepped characters at thier regular fighting best if that helps.

Also, I'm making judgements purely based on their video game exploits and nothing more.

The judging should only be based on gaming exploits considering this is a gaming draft and I think they should be judged on their maximum abilities.


And yes Cloud with Knights of the Realm, Ultima and Bahamut Zero against Leon with his rocket launcher would indeed be interesting.

With some common sense though of course Sepheroth is uber powerful, but in Kingdom Hearts you can beat him as an optional boss.

So... I guess every villain automatically loses because they get beaten in the end? Or because it's possible to beat them?

Has anyone here actually beaten Sephiroth in KH? Without going out of your way and taking a lot of extra time to level up to an uber degree, I mean? Also stuff that should maybe be taken into account.

Should a dude like Sephiroth really get beaten by a hunched-over kid swinging a blunt key? Should Cloud? Should a Cloud and Squall trump?!?!

See, this has the potential to get a bit... messy. An entire draft based off of game mechanics? How does that work, since game mechanics are completely subjective? Are we dealing with scenarios that involve Kyle Katarn being able to recover from any blaster or lightsaber wound instantly just by stepping on box that contains unidentified healing... stuff?

 

This is going to be down to the judges to justify how they came to their conclusions.


On paper Samus Aran should pwn James Bond because bond only has projectile weapons compared to Samus's array of arsenal. The judges will need to consider how the match up would run and how it would play out.


Would Bond suave his way over our female bounty hunter then pop a cap in her when her back is turned or would Samus be savvy enough to just open fire on sight?

I think the first draft could be messy as we start to find who is generally considered the superior character.

i.e could Mario beat Sephiroth?

Mario with invincibility then yes other wise who knows, the judges will have to be good and consistant.


Regarding villains always losing that may only happen with Cloud Vs Sephiroth. Samus Vs Sephiroth could be quite different and there's also the Bowser vs Sephiroth possibility as well.

It's not clear cut.

You also have to look at the possibility of cohesiveness for any group battles that may come along. This will be harder to justify than in other drafts which will make this draft even more interesting.

 

Is this list the be all end all... Or could I pick someone else that is in a video game? I mean we have Yoda and Kyle on the board, but could I pick someone from Star Wars in a video game that isn't on the list?

What I meant was that every match was not to be considered a pushover, this is important for the judges. I got spanked by Sepheiroth
