Edit: Also, I'll clarify my position regarding Yoda. He's a force behemoth, but from most evidence he tends to use those powers only for absorbing and whatnot, not attack. He wades into combat with his saber. And should he come up against someone with powers that make killing him with a lightsaber difficult, like Sephiroth, he's got nothing to fall back on. Whereas Kyle always has dozens of thermal detonators, several different types of weapons, and even unarmed combat knowledge to fall back on.

Though in those situations they may be not much help, of course.
