    1) Yes! There needs to be some mystery and a lot of blanks for us to fill in. I am personally a fan of the PT, but I do think that Vader was a much more interesting character when his past was in my imagination.
    2) Again, I agree. The movie should show us more than it tells us, in terms of the Sith...
    3) yep and I don't necessarily care if it's fancy or unique (though Maul's double-bladed saber was awesome)
    4) This is going to be difficult to pull off in a convincing fashion. I'm kind of torn about this...
    5) - 7) A million times yes...
    8) Of course...

I'd like to have him be a bit more open about his identity. Not hiding under a mask, not using false names. Be a direct, open threat. If he wears armor, it should be for pragmatic purposes, not in order to stay alive or conceal his identity. In one scene, we see him in a "more casual" environment, sipping a glass of Corellian brandy... the next, he dons his armor and kicks some ass. It sounds so simple, yet having the villain not wear the same clothes all the time and be open about who he is would be a rather innovative thing in SW.

Yes x 1,000. That's why I think an (ex) Imperial officer could work perfectly.

    Forgot to add:

Villain must be dangerous on multiple levels, not just upfront brute power.

His words must carry the influential weight of a lightsaber gash. His powers of persuasion being so strong, that his utterances are like poison to the protagonists. Seeds nesting in the mind that grow malignant over time. Much more so than Vader or Palplatine's little hints.

Man, this is hard. I want the character to be original, but that isn't an easy thing to do these days. It always reminds me that killing off Darth Maul in the first prequel was such a waste, too. He could have been as iconic as Vader, if he had the chance. Aside from the movies and tv shows, the books pretty much have used up a lot of ideas, so it's going to be difficult creating a new and original character that is as interesting as Vader.

    1. Race and appearance. Come up with some new and cool looking alien race, that's never been seen before. Please, don't use one of the same twenty alien races that's been used to death in the films, shows and books. And no more freakin head tails...I'm so sick of races with head tails.

    2. Costume design. Make him look cool, but also keep his face covered and identity a secret (the same goes for his minions) until the last act; much like how Vader and Sidious were presented, but without the disfigurements, of course.

    3. Abilities and powers. Must make him Force sensitive. Doesn't need to be a Sith, but has to be a possible threat of becoming one.

    4. Followers and minions. Make him have a group of protectors that are either trained in the Force too, or are highly skilled enforcers. An army of cloned people from his race could be how he gets his legions, but make them enhanced with a super serum or something to make them special somehow.

    5. Plot designs. Needs to have devised a way to become a viable threat, and that could only mean he or she has discovered something new and powerful.

    6. Goals. Make him have a grudge against the Republic for allowing the Empire to form in its place, like maybe his people were wiped out or something.

Who wouldn't love that? But it is very hard to write a villain who can really attack the spirit of the hero. Usually there must already be a weakness in play that can be exploited. And the villain has to know about it. If those puzzle pieces are existent, then yes, this is possible.
