Okay, now there is alot of hoopla about visions and prophecy and blah blah blah. Its all very weird, all these things are different and to actually understand this we have to have something that is a vocabulary for this discussion. There are diffferences between possible futures, causal visions, visions and prophecy.

A vision is a metaphorical actual or symobolic representation of the future delivered to the mind of a force sensitive. They are bereft of additional information, though if they are symbolic or metaphorical the meaning is either abundantly clear or muddy. In one case, the visionary KNOWS beyond a shadow of a doubt what the vision is (Ex, he sees a flash of yellow and knows that someone will die of a wasting diease), in the other the vision is symbolic but incomprehensible, these visions may become prophecy. An example of a vision is Anakin's vision of Padme dying. A vision may or may not HAVE to come to pass, but whether ignoring the vision or actign upon its information brings about the future ist predicts is impossible to know since it offers no casual relationship.

A Causal Vision is a vision in which a choice or event in presented and then a consequence. For example, when Jacen sees the killiks burning the galaxy. He is given not only a direct description but a causal reason why. This type of vision is easy to interpret and represents 99% of the time a vision that doesn't HAVE to come to pass. Seeing where a blasterbolt will be fired could be interpreted as a short term causal vision.

A Possible Future is a vision of a set of decisions and their consequences. It is mostly differentiated from a causal vision by the fact that it is self initated. INstead of beign gifted with a metahphorical insight, you actively cast your eyes downt he timestream to discover things. When yoda says the future is always in motion he is most likely refering to futures seen through this active method.

A Prophecy is something that must come true. It is usually a concrete set of words or symbols and though there can be misinterpretation the prophecy always comes true. For example, "on the day the arrow falls he dies", it could be a real arrow, it could be some dude named arrow, he could be falling off a cliff or falling metaphorically into sin and so on.

Now please, put this in you pipe and smoke it, feel free to debate the finer points but clumping all scrying together is wrong as obviously there are many different types of viewing of the future with different rules. The whole future is always in motion invalidation of all gazings is a little silly when taken to the extreme, as is the self fulfilling prophecy, there are obviously two ends of the spectrum, both can't always be true all the time.

Whenever a Jedi has a vision of something bad happening, they always end up making it happen personally, so apparently a vision is the Force's way of saying "here, make this happen for me".

Well thats only VISIONS, the lack of context makes the fate impossible to avoid. However, CAUSAL VISIONS are always avoidable. IE, that door is going to blow up if I push that button, hence I won't push that button. Or If the killiks aren't engaged before they are ready they will devour the galaxy and plunge it into never ending war. Even the whole, XYZ minion is going to shoot me at precisely this moment is a causal vision that is constantly prevented from coming to pass.
