I hope you don't mind if I add on to this on, HevyDevy,
Interesting Piett'sHat. By all means feel free to discuss or add to any of my posts. To be honest, I was hoping the thread would generate more conversation.
Anakin and Obi-Wan have been force-pushed a lot. It's not surprising that in ROTS they are evenly matched-
The Sith obtain the Deathstar plans from the Seperatists then betray them, the Rebels steal similar plans back again-
Inversion between down and up-
"Impossible. Nothing can get through our shield!"
"Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances!"
Wires while working together...
Wires as enemies...
Also note that in TPM and ROTS they are drifting towards a waterfall/lavafall
A few more...
This droid makes other appearances if I recall. Here is him in ANH and ROTJ-
R2 being kicked-
The Invisible Hand as a meteor-
A probe droid as a meteor-
Deathstar's birth vs it's destruction-
Yoda and Luke after defeat-
Baby Leia on Alderaan-
Leia witnessing Alderaan's destruction-
This is my favorite one so far. Good one!
I'm starting to run out of ideas . Although I'm sure there is still more to be discovered.
Also in ROTS, but the background spins instead-
Has anyone else noticed in ROTS Obi-Wan always lights his saber first? Also in AOTC, and when facing Maul in TPM-
I'll be back with more later...
Like I said before, these are getting a little obscure, but what the hell...
End of ROTS-
Final space battles of each trilogy-
Flying towards each duel location, where Sidious waits on a throne for the two Skywalkers-
A Jedi lesson involving midichlorians and symbiosis with them-
A Sith lesson involving midichlorians and manipulating them-
Escape from corrupt central TPM and ANH-
"Hey you, no droids. Get out of here!"
We don't serve their kind here!"
A contrast in Anakin's and Luke's training-
"This weapon is your life!"
"Your weapons... you will not need them"
"Come away with me. Leave everything else behind while we still can!"
"Come with me"
Some people have speculated a theory about decapitations in Star Wars. If a character beheads someone, they always seem to lose their next duel-
Anakin will lose to Dooku-
This buzz-droid is soon killed-
Anakin will lose to Obi-Wan-
Mace Windu is killed trying to behead Palpatine-
Yoda will lose to Sidious-
Luke will lose to the real Vader-
And, of course...
"Come with me. It is the only way."
Note that each time, the person in question refuses...
Anakin refuses Padmé in ROTS.
Luke refuses Anakin in ESB.
Then Anakin refuses Luke in ROTJ. Well, at least initially.
Well, and of course "You must come with me to Alderaan", the original.
And if you think about it, "Boodeedoopbwoopdweep". To which 3PO says, "I'm going to regret this."
A lot of the ones I'm using were also on the Galactic Symphony website. It's a shame that site closed down...
Obi-Wan spying on Seperatists-
In ROTS the times we see Palpatine's office progress from day to night, leading up to Anakin's turn-
There is also the following shot from Revenge Of The Sith, where the camera moves from the lighter side to the darker side when Palpatine announces the Empire:
I love that scene.
There is Anakin's paranoia, Padmé's political work, Anakin's jealousy, Palpatine's seduction, a little Padmé vs. Palpatine. It's a shame it didn't make it to the final cut.
Nice addition Samnz. Yeah I also like that deleted scene, I usually watch it when I watch ROTS. That and Anakin and Palpatine discussing changes to the constitution, I wish those scenes had been kept in.
Luke undergoes many trials in Empire Strikes Back. Some of it can be symbolised by the fact he is upside down three times in the movie-
Another indicator of the tests he is undergoing are his two crash landings. One of my fave things about the OT is the growth Luke displays over his character arc-
In TPM R2 fixes the shield generator, but the hyperdrive is damaged-
In ESB R2 reactivates the Falcon's hyperdrive-
ROTS- (I like the contrast between the TPM peaceful landing and the ROTS chaotic one)
Some more, most of which I have to acredit to the ex-Galactic Symphony website.
Anakin's mother's death/Luke's father's death-
Speeding towards parent/foster parents-
"We are a democracy. The people have decided!" "Take him away."
"You are part of the Rebel Alliance and a traitor. Take her away!"
"Concentrate on the moment. Feel, don't think. Trust your instincts."
"This time let go of your conscious self and act on instinct... Stretch out with your feelings!"
Surveying Tatooine TPM/ANH. Perhaps foreshadowing Luke as a possible next in line as apprentice after Vader?-
A contrast in birth and death as a corpse then a baby are taken to the same homestead-
Obi-Wan arriving from hyperspace AOTC/ROTS-
Waking Jabba TPM/ROTJ-
Incapacitating guards ROTS/ROTJ-
Running the blockade TPM/ANH-
Thought I would do some of the moments where a person is sensed through the force...
AOTC. Anakin knows where Shmi is-
ROTS. Palpatine predicts Vader's arrival-
ANH. Vader senses Obi-Wan's presence-
ESB. Luke and Vader sense each other-
ROTJ. Luke and vader sense each other again-
ROTJ. And in a nice tie-off to the saga, Leia begins her Jedi path by sensing Luke is alive-
These are getting less visually similar, but interesting nonetheless...
The Rebel Insignia is in Padme's hairpiece-
Foreshadowing in Padme's dress?
Recruiting an apprentice with point-of-view truths-
(To Palpatine) "My fate will be no different than that of my people"-
(To Palpatine) "His fate will be the same as ours"-
Anakin as Artoo's friend-
Vader shooting Artoo-
TPM: Saving a Queen-
ROTS: Saving Palpatine-
ANH: Saving a princess-
ROTJ: Saving Han-
"He is the chosen one. He will bring balance. Train him."
"There is good in him. I know there's still..."
"You were right about me. Tell your sister... you were right."
After regaining consciousness-
After regaining consciousness-
"A communications disruption can mean only one thing. Invasion."
"Our communications have been jammed." A possible political statement as the Republic have become the invaders-
A contrast in Obi-Wan and Anakin's tutelage. Qui-Gon states that Obi-Wan is ready. Obi-Wan states the opposite about Anakin when in Qui-Gon's position-
Qui-gon: Obi-Wan is ready..." Obi-Wan: "I am ready to face the trials."
Anakin: "I'm ready for the trials." Obi-Wan (in another scene): "He is not ready to be given this assignment on his own yet."
"Your fulfilling your destiny Anakin."
"Now, fulfill your destiny and take your father's place at my side!"
And the meaningful contrast...
"Your destiny lies along a different path from mine."
I dont have any pictures but one thing I always loved is something i dont think many people pick up on.
Samuel L Jackson and most of the jedi we see in TPM keep their hands rested in the same "jedi like" gesture that we see luke do in ROTJ when he first enters jabbas palace.
This is the real reason why we see jedi like plo koon with their hands folded in the same kind of "pose". It all comes from Samuel l Jackson intimidating mark hamil's "jedi pose".
A lot of mine were already posted on the visual storytelling thread by other people, so please excuse my plaguerism if anyone who posted on it is reading
TPM/ROTJ. A successfull and failed mind-trick-
ROTS/ROTJ. "I can feeel your anger"-
ROTS. "Leave us" (to his aides)-
ROTJ. "Guards... leave us."-
A reoccuring theme of identity revelations-
TPM. Padme is Amidala-
ROTS. Palpatine is Sidious-
ESB. Vader is Luke's father-
ROTJ. Leia is Luke's sister-
Palpatine quotes about working together...
TPM. "Together, we will bring peace and prosperity to the Republic."-
ROTS. "To cheat death is a power only one has achieved, but if we work together... I know we can discover the secret."-
ROTJ. "He has grown strong. Only together can we turn him to the darkside of the force."-
AOTC/ESB. I always felt the way Padme and Anakin are brought into the arena to be executed is a metaphor for us as the audience watching a tragic love story-
This is also a kind of tragic moment for Han and Leia, but at least you know it will turn out well for them-
Introductions to the homestead in AOTC and ANH-
