Huh. TCW could be awfully heavy-handed sometimes with the "foreshadowing" stuff, but that's actually pretty clever.

That's pretty amazing looking, actually. Kind of pushing me into wanting to give TCW a chance, once I get the time.

Gonna quote Slicer87 for this excellent find:
Two very different throne rooms, but it's still clear who's really in control.

These are probably not new, but they caught my eye recently.

    1.)

Mace's lightsaber separates Anakin from Palpatine (and from being a Sith) in the first one. Anakin's lightsaber separates himself from the Jedi, furture as a Jedi and the Jedi's future (kids).

Many see in Qui-Gon's death an important constributor to Anakin's fall, therefore Vader's birth (smoke can be seen as a variation of the fire). The very last shot of Vader's armor in the films is one in flames - just like Qui-Gon's, although in the opposite directions.

Not a visual link, but people have brought up before the interesting dynamic of this picture, with Anakin being separated from Palpatine by both Obi-Wan and Padme:

You know what's also chilling about this picture? That little boy will grow up to kill everyone shown here -- including himself.

I wondered if that was an allusion to The Fugitive (and didn't The Fugitive itself draw inspiration from Les Miserables)?

I think this has already been in the thread, but there is a clear visual link with that picture (complete with following up on that dynamic):

I thought this thread was supposed to be about links between the six movies.

Going pack a few pages I found a lot of interesting outside links as well. Given the nature of Star Wars and just how much inspiration it draws from other sources (pulp sci-fi, fantasy, westerns, samurai films, mythology, religion, politics, philosophy, etc.) and given just how much Star Wars has, in turn, influenced film and the world around it, it only makes sense that these visual links would exist not just within the saga but all around it as well.

I'm not saying that there are no links with other movies, just that I thought this thread was about links within the saga.

Agreed. It is always immense amounts of fun watching the films again and digging beneath the surface, seeing what new themes and ideas and potential hidden references and connections there are to pick up on. As great as the surface level stuff is, the stuff beneath it is even more fascinating.

This is not a link between scenes, but links within a single scene.

Consider how many times Anakin is separated from his mother by the walls (architecture) or carefully positioned in between his mother and Qui-Gon in this scene.

    (mother in a separate room)

(Qui-Gon in another, door in the background)

(Shall I leave the room and my past behind? - notice another way out in the background)

    (threshold, dilemma)

    (threshold)

    (poor Shmi...left behind :( )

    (famous completion)

Mos Espa's architecture allows some beautiful compostion.

Red dot on her abdomen, red dots on her face.

Even the costuming and makeup tell their own story.

    Very nice!

You managed to pick some of the rawest and most iconic shots, and in a few cases, you gave them a spin.

Like the shot of Luke and Vader about to draw swords. Or the shot of Amidala facing Nass with the peace globe sideways on.

    Very interesting!!

Notice how Anakin and Shmi basically inhabit a cave-like environment.

"The Doors Of Perception"? (Aldous Huxley)

"The doors of heaven and hell are adjacent and identical" -- "The Last Temptation Of Christ" (Nikos Kazantzakis)

Read more about TPM's links with the filmed version of the latter here:

I recently thought about distinct (visual) contrast in the films. A few of them:

    Splendor outside:
    Loneliness inside:

Two Sith, at the center of the events, plotting and manipulating their "partners":
Two Jedi, passive protectors, unaware of the hidden threat:

Luke, wanting to leave his past behind:
