    Thank you for that pic!
In the AOTC making of book, Gavin Bocquet explained how they were showing Palpatine's growing darkness with a growing amount of dark colors in his office. In TPM it was mostly red, in AOTC greys were added and he said they wanted to show him in ROTS in a room with all blacks and greys.
I thought they didn't go for it until now, because I completely missed THIS one. They really did it.
    Thank you, HevyDevy.

@HevyDevy : Here's one I wonder if you've posted before or thought about... maybe it's just me, but I thought it was noteworthy.

In ROTS, Anakin's view out of the two windows overlooking Coruscant in the Ruminations scene seems to mirror the appearance of the two eyepieces in his new Vader mask as it's being lowered over his face near the end of ROTS. Thoughts?

I've seen these juxtaposed along with a lot of windshield-view shots in the saga.

I hadn't noticed that. Nice observation. Something similar to that, the saga starts and ends with lots of greens in TPM and ROTJ, the middle movies have less of it.

Interesting, I'll have to look out for that next time I watch. It would make sense, IMO it is the scene where Anakin decides he must assure Palpatine is left alive.

Here is one of the many examples that re-enforces Palpatine's comment "The Sith and the Jedi are similar in almost every way."
ROTS. "Destroy the Sith we must."-
    [IMG]
ROTJ. "If you will not be turned, you will be destroyed!"-
    [IMG]

    TPM/ANH-
    [IMG]

Some internal rhyming in ROTS. When Padme first suggests "Do you think Obi-Wan will be able to help us?" Anakin solemnly states that they don't need his help-
    [IMG]
After the turn however, when Padme states "He wants to help us" Anakin contrastingly finds it amusing-
    [IMG]

Another within Revenge of the Sith. About Dooku's death, Palpatine states "He was too dangerous to be kept alive." To which Anakin says "I shouldn't have done that, it's not the Jedi way."-
    [IMG]
Later, when Mace wants to kill Palpatine, he echoes Palpatine's line "He's too dangerous to be left alive!" to which Anakin again states "It's not the Jedi way!"-
    [IMG]

Jedi seem to keep ther promises.
"I will come back and free you mom. I promise." (He does, technically)-
    [IMG]
"Anakin will be a Jedi, I promise you."-
    [IMG]
"You will be a Jedi. I promise."-
    [IMG]
"And I will return. I promise."-
    [IMG]

    ROTS/ANH-
    [IMG]

    TPM/ANH. "Nothing happens by accident"-
    [IMG]
"In my experience there is no such thing as luck."

    AOTC/ROTJ-
    [IMG]

Anakin and Padme are symbiotic. As one fades, so does the other-

This is an interesting contrast between AOTC and ROTS. Anakin smiling at Padme's nieces, and Vader doing the opposite in the next film-

I have noticed a lot of opposites between TPM and ROTS. One of them...
In TPM Sidious sends Darth Maul to join the Trade Federation. "A Sith, here?"-
    [IMG]
"When my apprentice Darth Vader arrives, he will take care of you." You can see why Gunray easily complies, he has dealt with a Sith apprentice before. Of course, this time the irony is that Vader is being sent to assassinate them-
    [IMG]

A contrast in the opening of TPM and ROTS. In both films two Jedi land on a Trade Federation Ship, and end up on the planet it is above using different ships to the ones they arrived on. In TPM they stow aboard the invasion ships, in ROTS Anakin pilots the Invisible Hand itself. When they first arrive in TPM it is quite peaceful, the droids allow them to land-
    [IMG]
This contrasts ROTS, where they crash land through droids and immediately start fighting-
    [IMG]

Furthermore, here Anakin backslides through droids as he lands on the ship he will later pilot-
    [IMG]
Back in TPM, he does the same to a droid (going forward) as he leaves the ship he is destroying-

    ROTS/ANH. Sensing mass murders-
    [IMG]

Some foreshadowing, as Anakin leaving his mother transitions to Maul, whom Anakin will one day replace-
    [IMG][IMG]

More symbolism. Anakin at this stage is innocent, and is almost killed when he is passed over by Maul-
    [IMG]

    The good guys get away-
    [IMG][IMG]

    Palpatine's two-faced-ness...
"May I present to you, Supreme Chancellor Valorum"-
    [IMG]
"This is where Chancellor Valorum's strength will disappear"-
    [IMG]

    TPM/ROTJ. Thinkin with their stomachs-
    [IMG]

    TPM/ROTJ.
(About Anakin, speaking to a lower rank) "Bring him before us then."-

    ROTS/ANH-
    [IMG]

    ROTS/ROTJ. Anakin/Vader delivering a report to Palpatine-
    [IMG][IMG]

A TPM/ROTS inversion. (To Palpatine): "We must do something quickly to stop the Federation"-
    [IMG]
Palaptine: "We must move quickly. The Jedi are relentless."-
    [IMG]

TPM/ROTJ. Leia echoes her father's words-
Anakin: "They're the most beautiful creatures in the universe." And here... "You seem sad."
Leia: "She was very beautiful. Kind, but sad."-
    [IMG]

    AOTC/ROTS-
    [IMG]

    Thunder and lighting.
Lighting adds a foreboding element to the creation of the Clone army on Kamino-
    [IMG]
As Anakin is about to turn, he shields himself from the brightness of the force-lightning, and thunder can be heard symbolising the shift in the force that is about to happen, or happening-
    [IMG]
Lightning again for the creation of Vader-

Has anyone else noticed a re-ocurring theme with get-aways? It happens a lot in Star Wars. A character escapes, then later on they are killed...

    Qui-Gon escapes-
    [IMG]
Next time they meet, he is killed-
    [IMG]

    Jango escapes-
    [IMG]
    Later Mace kills him-
    [IMG]

    Dooku escapes-
    [IMG]
Next time they meet, he is killed-
    [IMG]

    Grievous escapes-
    [IMG]
Next time they meet, he is killed-
    [IMG]

    Obi-Wan escapes-
    [IMG]
Next time they meet, he is killed-
    [IMG]

    Boba Fett escapes-
    [IMG]
He is killed in the next movie-
    [IMG]

    Luke escapes Vader-
    [IMG]
And breaking the tradition, after Luke spares Vader's life, Vader saves his-

AOTC is the only episode in the saga that inverts the others by panning up at the start. It really gives you a sense that the galaxy is changing, or being turned on it's head after Episode 1-

I've always liked how these points seem to parallel as well for AOTC/ROTS:

In AOTC, Anakin still has a choice left, but it's becoming more obscured, and not just because the suns are setting. I always thought it was interesting how the speeder-bike scene is framed. If it had continued for several seconds longer, then Anakin's head would have obscured the sun, but it cuts away just before that can happen.

By ROTS, though, there's a full solar eclipse -- no longer any choice.

I think you pointed this out on the first page by comparing Luke in ANH to Anakin in ROTS, HevyDevy, but I thought it was interesting how there's also a comparison strictly with Anakin between AOTC and ROTS.

Interesting PiettsHat. It seems some moments can have more than one parallel between them and the other films.

Another contrast to the Binary sunset, betwen ANH and ROTS...
Where two suns represent hope and destiny, two moons symbolise the end of the Republic-
    [IMG]

TPM/ROTS. Obi-Wan and Padme stand between Palpatine and Anakin. By the end of ROTS, Sidious has discarded Padme and Obi-Wan, the obstacles to having Anakin as solely his. It could also represent that they are used as tools to turn Anakin-
    [IMG][IMG]

    TPM/AOTC.
    "Begin the race!"-

R2 hiding from Tuskens as they steal from Luke's speeder-

Thanx for the encouragement obi-rob-kenobi4. Although I have to give a lot of credit to the old threads "Visual Storytelling at it's greatest" and "ROTS- cool links, mirrors and parallels". A lot of mine came from those threads ;)

Obi-Wan seems to learn about saber-locks over the course of the prequels. These three duels end with a saber-lock...
In TPM, Maul overpowers Obi-Wan in the lock and force-pushes him to the low-ground-
    [IMG]
In AOTC, Dooku overpowers Obi-Wan in the lock and then incapacitates him-
    [IMG]
In ROTS, Obi-Wan bails before either opponent is overpowered, and jumps to high-ground-

I always liked the TPM duel because there are contrasts of Luke with both Maul and Obi-Wan. This is really where his allegiance to the Jedi is tested and so I think it was clever of Lucas to work in parallels to both characters.

    Nice, HevyDevy!

On the subject of saber locks, I really like this one due to the rotation and use of color:

It starts with a predominantly blue motif as Anakin struggles against Dooku, but as he gets angrier, the red takes over the frame and pushes blue to the side. I also like that Dooku's lightsaber bisects Anakin's face in that last image, which in many ways reflects the growing influence of the Dark Side over him.

Nice, I hadn't thought of that. Good use of colours, and it can relate to the end of the duel, where Anakin's dual (potential) paths are symbolised by him holding both his and Dooku's sabers.
Also, I think an interesting part of the parallel to Luke fighting Vader in ROTJ is that Luke takes much longer to give into his anger, although it is more subtley done in ROTS.

    What do you mean?

This is kind of a theory I have about Anakin losing his "family" after he turns. When Obi-Wan abandons Anakin, R2 also leaves Anakin, following Obi-Wan.
Obi-Wan, Padme, R2, and C-3PO then leave Anakin on Mustafar...
...After which, Palpatine arrives (to collect Vader) on the same platform Padme's ship left from, replacing everyone else-

And of course, in the next movie the droids end up with Luke, as Obi-Wan begins training the next generation-
