Soundtrack.net has a preview of John William's score for War of the Worlds. I'm trying to get it to work, I hate streaming QT.

    And like that...he's gone.

I listened to the clips, or I tried anyway (they kept stopping every few seconds), but what I heard I liked. Sounds like a mix of Close Encounters, Minority Report, and ROTS.

Morgan Freeman doing the prologue is awful as hel. [face_plain]

Especially if you're used to Richard Burton...

I saw a TV spot for it, and they used the same music as The Day After Tomorrow.

Yes. That's what trailers tend to do.

One time, I saw this trailer that used "O Fortuna". That was a crazy, once-in-a-lifetime thing.

Yeah i like it more when rip-offs of Orff are used instead. Much cheesier.

And I like it when people proclaim that any music with latin in it is an Orff rip-off, even if it sounds nothing like Orff.

And I love it when threads turn into sarcastic in-group remark fests.

back on topic, if the score for War of the Worlds sounds anyuthing like close encounters, i'll be looking forward to this film even more then i am now. i have a feeling it's gonna be very edgy dissonant and i hope it's real nasty. and based on the movie's content, there won't be much room for a fun adventure theme. i expect some great underscore, raw and nasty action cues (no harry potter quiddich music please) and some intense emotive pieces.

and i hope it's mixed by someone other then the people who have been mixing most movie scores lately. ugh. i yearn for the days when trumpets were in your face and flutes stuck out. it's such a flat, even, smooth mix nowadays. i'd like to hear something more edgy, less "perfectly mixed".

    and yes i'm serious.

Media Ventures scores are mixed so loud in movies you need to cover your ears, whereas Willilams scores are mixed so low, you need a hearing aid.

It is a good soundtrack but not as memorable as the ROTS one of course. There are some nice pieces of music, but overall an average Williams soundtrack (and this means ways better than anyone else btw) :)

I saw this yesterday, brilliant film. The sound was awesome and kind of overwhelmed the music i thought, but i will definatley get it on DVD, so i will have plenty of time to analyse the score.

The soundtrack is alright, I hate the speaker making the introduction and the epilogue (Is there a version without the speech? ). But the music is not as reminiscent as WARS.

I bought the soundtrack yesterday. I personally think over the last few years that Revenge of the Sith, The Terminal, and The Prisoner of Azkaban are better soundtracks, but WOTW is definately good.

    Score: 8/10.

Possibly it will work way better with the film. I'll see it one of those days, but the CD doesn't have the "rock'n roll" accessibility of Williams' thematic scores.

One of the themes from The Day after Tommorow? It's used too often now adays in many triliers. It's even used in PixelMagic's Ep3 fan-made trailer.
