ST Was Coruscant destroyed?

Was Coruscant one of the many planets destroyed by Starkiller Base or was it in fact one that looked quite similar? I ask this because the New Order set to destroy the Republic "once and for all" and last time it existed, it was on Coruscant.

Hosnian Prime

I thought the same when I first watched it. Don't worry.

 

Since this hasn't been locked yet, I feel the need to point out that Coruscant and Hosnian Prime look NOTHING alike.

Coruscant is futuristic, whereas Hosnian Prime's city just looks like New York, Chicago, L.A., and numerous other major American metropolitan cities.

Did you not see the wide shot of the city? It looked pretty much like Coruscant. It's on there for less than a minute so you really don't get to even explore it very much.

 

No, it didn't; it looked like any generic American city.

 

It was the Hosnian System, as mentioned by Poe.

I also thought it was Coruscant at first. I was like "Wow. They really want to wipe the slate clean".
When I heard Poe say that the attack had been on the Hosnian System, I was SO relieved

 

The fact that many people thought it was Coruscant should be indication enough that it looked quite a bit like it. And, it was not mentioned that it was the Hosnian system until after it was destroyed, which probably only added to the confusion.

 

Sorry didn't mean to come off as sarcastic. That book is really good if you liked TFA though. fills in a lot of backstory details.

It's a generic looking capital city. I think to an unfamiliar eye, most of our cities would also look quite similar.

I agree! You barely get a chance to really see it.

 

There's no place on Earth that looks like that one shot of Hosnian Prime where the Starkiller blast is approaching. It actually appears very similar to Coruscant... particularly in ROTJ.

 

My thought at the time was 'Is Coruscant in the Hosnian System?' Definitely could have used at least a little more exposition. Supplementary materials should tell us about who the people getting blown up are and their backstories, it shouldn't be necessary to understand what is being blown up in the scene.

 

A lot of people apparently thought that was Coruscant, at least at the first viewing I went to.
