PT Was Ewan McGregor's performance of Obi Wan satisfactory?

Well, since I get chills every time I see him shout at Anakin, "You were the chosen one!" I guess my answer is yes, I think he did a fine job.

 

I feel like when Kenobi yells that at Anakin, actually, that entire scene's dialogue, is the pinnacle of Ewan's character. That scene was where Ewan performed his best.

 

I think McGregor did a fantastic job as Obi-Wan. That's one PT role that the casting process got just right.

 

The best spin-off concept IMO, would be a post-ROTS Obi story with McGregor!

 

Yes overall, but at times I think his acting was held back by having to put on an Alec Guinness accent, and of course the famous clunky dialogue: "I have seen a security hologram of him...killing younglings."

 

I don't think i've ever met anyone who disliked Ewan as Obi-Wan, even most diehard PT haters think he's good, as far as I've seen. He was a definite plus side to the series, and I don't think I would ever want to see someone else in the role. Bonus points for him being a really cool dude too.

 

I don't think anyone could have played a better Obi-Wan in the prequels, with the exception of a young Allec Guiness.

 

As others have said, even people who vehemently hate the prequels think that Ewan McGregor did a good job.

I happen not to hate the prequels and I agree that his performance was excellent, overall.

 

If he had sucked, he wouldn't even be near my icons.

 

I think he is fabulous.

 

That would be my one criticism; the accent wasn't quite there at times and could sound a little odd. Over all however I think he did an excellent job.

 

he was great. really enjoyed it. i really felt like luke, he was the main protagonist of the PT even though the whole story is about Anakin.

 

I love Alec McGregor or was that Ewan Guiness?

 

Ewan McGregor took what Alec Guinness did and expanded it even though he was held back by clunky dialogue and having the character be very weak in the 2nd chapter. He had little to go on other than Guinness' speech pattern and the odd motion as he conducted a Jedi trick as an old man.

But what stands out above everything is he turned Obi-Wan Kenobi into an action star. He gave us memorable lightsaber duels against Darth Maul, General Grevious and Anakin Skywalker. Everytime i watch RotS and the moment where he says 'i will do what i must' i always think to myself this is what its all been about, just building up to this moment.

 

It's funny because Qui-Gon says that to Obi-Wan in TPM. "I shall do what I must, Obi-Wan." Having Obi-Wan say it at the end of ROTS is a nice way to bring him full circle

 

Yeah, he was great.

 

I'm gonna be the party pooper but he didn't work for me as a whole.

His vocal patterns weren't much cop to emulate Guinness. He had the little nuances on the odd occassion, but it didn't hold up. His heart didn't seem in it for much of that trilogy but with the odd exception of the last 10 minutes in ROTS - it didn't happen.

Personally I think somebody like Kenneth Branagh would have been far more suited.

I only say this as being a BIG Guinness fan from studying a lot of Gunness' films and performances.

 

Ewan is a wonderful actor, and his performance as Obi-wan in the prequels was as well done as anyone could with the scripts he had to work with. I always felt episode 3 showed everyone working hard enough to out act George's direction.

 

He was brilliance personified!

 

McGregor was one of a select few who did a good job.
