If her parents were special people then why would they leave her with Unkar Plutt on Jakku? We clearly see him pulling her as she watches her parents fly away in the forceback in TFA.

I think it was all JJ’s idea.

 

No. His idea was, that they fly away to Canto Bight to gamble with the money they got for Rey. Unfortunately they got arrested there right away for parking violation.
They were sitting in the cell next to DJ.

But to answer your questions if they were somebodies why they'd leave them with Unkar Plutt. Same as Luke being left on Tatooine. Protection by hiding her away.

 

But giving her to Unkar Plutt? He’s a mentally challenged psycho and rapist. If they were hiding her away they would’ve found someone better to raise her surely?

 

That's a really good question, which is what makes me believe they are really nobodies. But then I think of why the Falcon is there. Always felt like it and Rey were connected somehow. Maybe it was just pure coincidence.

 

I don’t think JJ had any idea. It was just a mystery box element that he introduced that he had no intention of answering. RJ tried to answer it. Did he do a good job, no buts it’s not completely his fault in Jmo.

 

The Falcon is there because Unkar Plutt stole it from the Irving Boys.

It's sort of refreshing in Star Wars for something totally random to happen. But it is odd the Falcon, Lor San Tekka, and Rey are all on the same planet. And why does Kylo Ren get so upset about a girl on Jakku? Then again Kylo Ren gets mad about lots of odd things.

That said - my original theory was Kylo Ren dropped Rey off there with the Falcon. Maybe she was a student at the temple. Maybe she was a random force sensitive Ren was hiding away from Snoke for protective or nerfarious reasons. Either way, she was left in an absolute hurry to be entrusted to Unkar Plunk. Maybe some Force magic was used on Unkar which was wearing off near the end.

But I really do like Rey being unconnected.
