What if the struggle Kylo is having is knowing he had to kill his father in order to gain the trust of Snoke, in order to then destroy the First Order? He even asks Han to help him. He's torn, but knows he must for the greater good. Like Severus Snape killing Dumbledore, the audience is left hating Snape, when in fact, he did the very hard thing in order to help destroy Voldemort.
Perhaps his "I know what I have to do, but I don't know if I have the strength to do it." is in fact for the light side of the force and not the darkness.

    Thoughts?

It would be interesting... but I don't think they are going to do anything so convoluted, even if interesting.

    I really hope so.
But they would have to pay an additional billion to JKR.

I think that is a very good thought process that you have regarding the issue he's having. Almost like a "better" Anakin, him wanting to do all that he could to save his wife and eventually it turned on him and he was tricked and deceived into the dark side. This could possibly be Kylo's "redemption" process.

However, I don't think that's the plot they're going for, nor do I think they ever had that cool plot twist in mind when writing the movie. I'll hope for the best and hope for your turn in events :)

According to Hildago's Visual Dictionary he betrayed and murdered the other Jedi students and its due to his skills with a lightsaber that is supposed to be ironically responsible for this weapon and its combat forms remaining unknown to the galaxy at large. He's entirely responsible for the destruction of the Jedi and has earned the name "Jedi Killer". He prevented the return of the Jedi Order.
