Palpatine fully turning into Darth Sidious seemed to spur him into issuing order 66. Was he planning to do so anyways, in the privacy of his control center, if Mace/posse had stayed home? He had already sensed Grievous was dead, right?

Palpatine snapped when Mace said he's "under arrest" and he and his posse ignited their friggin' lightsabers. If Mace simply said "Chancellor Palpatine, General Grevious is dead. Do you still need your emergency powers, or should it be returned to the Senate?" , Mace and co. would've lived until tomorrow, if Palpatine delayed order 66. Help me out.

Yoda- "Allow this appointment lightly, the Council does not. Disturbing is this move by Chancellor Palpatine."
Anakin- "I understand." (suppressing his excitement like a little boy)
Mace- "You are on this Council...but we do not grant you the rank of Master."
    Anakin- "......what?"

I think if Mace and Company had gone there with the intent of not arresting him. Order 66 would of probably been delayed much longer. Might of not ever been issue. He may of just put the jedi order on trail for crimes against humanity and let the public kill their War Heros and let his hands stay clean.

Because Order 66 was in place in case the Jedi caught on to him to quickly, at least I think so. Also for however Anakin reacted to Palpatine revealing himself.

Given that the destruction of the Jedi was his goal from as far back as Episode 1 at the very least I'd say it would still have been issued.

    Oh yes, most definitely.

Palpatine was a long range planner. The wars were designed to bring about the fall of the Republic and the Jedi as well.

Sidious knew he would be discovered sooner or later. He delibately told Anakin. Sids knew the Jedi would come for him.

The wars accomplished everything the Sith wanted.

Of course he would have. It would have come down to him vs the Jedi eventually.

Order 66 was the ultimate revenge of the Sith, the pinnacle of the Clone Wars, the beginning of the end. Palpatine would have executed Order 66 regardless of Mace's involvement or not.

Exactly! Order 66 was the Revenge of the Sith that
the title refers to. The execution of Order 66 was going to
happen no matter what. It was just a matter of time.

Palpatine needed to have it look like there was an assassination attempt on his life, otherwise he would never have gotten approval of the senate to exterminate the Jedi and turn the Republic into an Empire. It's a funny idea but at one point I was thinking what would have happened if Mace had Anakin quarantined under the suspicion of treason after he claims that Palpatine is a Sith Lord?[/u]

I mean if he was spreading slander about Palpatine being evil and then Palpatine just said "no, no it's alright I pardon him" it would make him look terrible, and killing the jedi, who this would make seem incredibly loyal to the jedi would be harder to do.

    ABSOLUTELY!!!

Anyone who says otherwise is simply not paying attention.

In episode 2, the Kaminoans tell Obi-Wan that the clones' genetic code was altered to make them more docile. We are told that they "take any order without question." DUH!!! This is a hint in reference to order 66. It's also possible that Jango knew of Order 66. He smirks when he tells Obi-Wan "They'll do their job well. I'll guarantee that!"

This was most certainly the plan all along. The best way to pull this off is when Jedi are in battle with "their" clones. It had to be done before the clone wars ended, so that the Jedi could be right near the clones and unexpecting, focusing on their battles. If Palpatine waited until after the clone wars, the Jedi would not have been caught off-guard. They would not even be WITH the clones. The clones would all have to go looking for Jedi. A few would die, but word would spread to watch out for clones. In order for it to be successful, it had to happen all at once during battle. The clone wars were the only time that Palpy would get this chance.

So, because the clone wars were winding down as the posse tried to arrest Palpatine, time was running out to execute the order. It was going to happen around that time no matter what. The only thing to wait for was a separatist loss in the war. As soon as the Separartists began losing in any big way, he was doing it.

Palpatine needs to justify killing the Jedi legally, to avoid suspicion. That's part of the reason he delayed handing over control to the Senate. He knew that he would bring the Jedi one step closer to doing what he wants of them, rather than the other way around. The Posse were already on their way there to tell Palpatine that Grievous was dead. He would've set up the fight then and there.

Remember, Palpatine has to come out of this looking like the innocent victum. He needs the Jedi to make a mistake.

of course he would have done it anyway.he didnt commanded order 66 in a fit of rage becasue the jedi went to arrest him bu becasue thats what he has been planning for the last decades.he would find another excuse if he hadnt been injured,he had the entire senate in his pocket

Probably not, He needed Anakin to turn and witness the 'Jedi rebellion' first. He couldn't just like call the Jedi's traitors without them visiting. It'd be like calling them traitors for just having suspicion but not actually acting upon it.

sure he would have issued it either way. in fact, this, just like the rest of the clone wars, was planned by palpatine. he was the one who told anakin to reveal him to the jedi council, which would bring them to him to arrest him. this gives him the chance to shed his palpatine appearance and claim he had been disfigured by the jedi. sidious was obviously a shrewd planner and even planned for alternatives if something went wrong. it was just a matter of time before 66 was issued, to rid him of the jedi.

Eventually, but he had to think of a way to turn the Senate against the Jedi and portray them as traitors. He probably would have let the war drag on for a little longer, but it was practically over with the deaths of Dooku and Grievous. He had to move soon, while the galaxy was engulfed in the chaos of the Clone Wars. Windu's arrest attempt was his perfect opportunity to strike. Anakin is disgruntled and worried for his wife, Obi-Wan and Yoda (as well as many Councilmembers) are far away and surrounded by Clones, Dooku and Grievous are out of the way, the Seperatist leaders are all together, and Sidious is enjoying popularity with the Senators. No time like the present.

he actually never really "need" anakin so if anakin had refused to turn palpatine would have just killed him along with the rest of the jedi

Let's not forget Palpatine was the one who TOLD the Jedi where to find Grievous in the first place, then revealed to Anakin he was a Sith lord right after learning Obi-wan had engaged Grievous. This means he knew the Jedi would be coming very soon to relieve him of his emergency powers. Given what we know about Palpatine, why would he do that? The obvious answer is that he had something else up his sleeve.

If Palpatine hadn't executed Order 66 then, when the Jedi were isolated and alone except for the clones, when would he? It was literally his last chance. The supposed assassination attempt, which he himself caused by spilling the beans to Anakin and then letting him leave, provided the perfect excuse.

but the question is "if the attempt never happened waht would he tell the senate as an excuse ?"

personally i think he would jsut find another excuse, the guy ALWAYS has something up his sleeve...except when he is chucked down bottomless shafts of course :p

Not until he had an apparently viable reason. Order 66 was his ace in the hole, and the thing about an ace in the hole is that you don't play until you're absolutely sure you're going to win. He plays his cards too early, he comes off looking like the bad guy. Play it off right after the Jedi have attacked you and tried to kill you, and Booyah! Instant rationale, and he's the hero saving the Republic.

So yes, he was planning to use it eventually, but not out of the blue. The Jedi had to make the first move.

Youre missing big parts here. Palps told Anakin he was the Sith Lord they were looking for and Anakin told Mace. If they delayed confronting Palps, they would have lived that much longer.

No no no....Palpatine NEEDED Anakin in order for his plan to succeed. If he activated Order 66 without Anakin on his side, Anakin would never have turned. It would certainly be a massive disaster for the Jedi, with hundreds of them being mowed down by the clonetroopers. But if Anakin never turned, if he saw what Palpatine was doing to the Jedi, he would most likely team up with Mace, and they'd find some way to infiltrate into Palpatine's office and take him out. He would probably still be stuck with the same "use my powers to save your wife" choice, but after seeing what Palpatine was really after, I think he'd be much more likely to choose not to turn.

i do not think so, palpatine needed the jedi to make a move against him first in order for the senate to think the jedi actually are trying to take over. plus if you noticed once grevious was killed and of course the jedi were expecting him to turn back over emergency powers but by not doing so. he also knew anakin would go back and tell the jedi that he was the dark lord so that also prompted the jedi to move quickly against him. also lastly having the seperatist killed and not able to defen themselves he could easily blame the jedi because all the council except for yoda and obiwan were killed and none of the other jedi were high up enough to fight the accusation because the council was very private and not open.
