Was Vader really played by a body builder in the OT?

If so, who was it?

 

David Prowse was the guy in the suit.

BTW: Does anyone know where I can find a picture of him (as a bodbuilder)...My dad says his name sounds vaguely familiar and aksed me for a picture to see if he remembers him (my dad used to be into bodybuilder when he was younger and he also really like star wars although he never knew Vader was played by one)

Have you ever seen A Clockwork Orange? Dave Prowse played the live-in orderly that helped out the crippled old man. He was also in a couple of the Hammer Horror Frankenstein flicks.

 

it was definitely priceless to hear David Prowse's voice in the documentary provided in the DVD release of OT. He had such a silly voice compared to James Earl Jones...

 

who are the men that played vader in all episodes, including voices.

I think it was just David Prowse who played for Vader's body in all the OT films, and James Earl Jones for the voice. Sebastian Shaw was for the face in ROTJ, and he's also the original Anakin Ghost. Go check IMDB.com for the cast.

 

Vader wouldn't have had such an intimidating aura about him if he had a Somerset accent.

He's from Bristol in the West Country. As well as Vader he also played The Green Cross Code Man.

Isn't there footage or pictures of Prowse without the helmet while shooting that one?

 

I think it was Dave Prowse doing the duels in ANH. I've seen him doing the rehearsals without the helmet on.

Bob Anderson did stand in for him, though, during the duels in ESB and ROTJ.
