Beyond - Legends Wasted (OC one-shot)

Heloooooo there potential readers!

I wrote this in the car or somewhere quick, so it's just a little piece.

Wasted

The wedding was beautiful,
the honeymoon romantic.

The first child was intimidating,
the second joyous, the third routine.

Schooling for three children was expensive,
training cost even more.

Raising a family was difficult,
depression common.

Lonely nights were heartbreaking,
affairs numerous.

Divorce was painful,
custody battles hurt worse.

The new war was terrifying,
the Vong invaders perverse.

Fighting was an escape,
memories inescapable.

Old age was crippling,
loneliness lethal.

Life was wasted,
death a release.

Cold nights are harsh to those deep in old age, and with nothing left to live for, Deana lay in her bed at the center of an empty room, shivering. One single word floated through her hollow mind, piercing the numbness. Wasted. Her life, which had started out so beautifully, had slowly wasted away to the frail, lone figure in the dark that she now was. Deana and life had ceased to coexist, and moments before the medics arrived, she released her fleeting grip, silently watching the world fade away.
