From what I've heard, it was taken seriously at least at one point, but I could be wrong. Depending on how it was written, it wouldn't necessarily be illogical. One of the conflicts in the trilogy, especially RotJ, was Luke's decision between light and dark. Look at the the scene in the cave in ESB; that would have foreshadowed the ending. Also, in both of his fights against Vader, Luke fought violently and with a lot of emotion, like a Sith. I still prefer the actual ending, but that one wouldn't be completely illogical.

If I recall, the mention of this in the story conference excerpts in Making of ROTJ has GL coming up with it, then saying essentially 'just kidding, that would be terrible' while Kasdan genuinely seems to like it.

And that's why I worry about Kasdan and JJ firing Arndt

One of my mates is about to show his son the Saga. Hopefully I'll be invited to join so I can report on it.

I guess, then, 1, 2, and 3 will become contraband -- forbidden fruit.

4-9 is what the adults recommend for the "good" of their children. 1-3 are being swept aside and made into the porn stash. :p

Be careful of oppression; and, indeed, suppression.

Or, you know, you could just let them form their own opinion of the PT as is.

It would be child abuse if you showed them mortal kombat annihilation or dragon all evolution

Alright, people, this girl I know at work has never seen any of the Star Wars movies, so I asked if she would like to participate in my I-VI experiment and she happily agreed. I told her she must commit to watching all six, or this won't work. She agreed. Today I gave her TPM and will interview her about it Thursday (as I am off work tomorrow). Stay tuned....

The first time I saw it in order from I-IV was actually not too long ago when Spike TV did a Star Wars holiday marathon. It gave me a new level of appreciation of the saga as a whole. For the first time I realized what a wholly immersive experience it is to watch Star Wars. And in truth, actually brought me to have a better understanding of events and context in the OT by watching the PT and the sage in sequence. Like when Vader and Obi-Wan duel on the Death Star.

I think viewing order will impact impressions made. However, I think it should be up to the newbie and not forced by an established fan trying to grandstand. That said, I'm curious what she makes of it.

I'm not forcing her to do anything. I asked her if she would like to participate in that particular experiment and gave her the conditions. It was her choice to do it or not.

I was introduced to Star Wars by watching the movies in chronological order.
I didn't saw the Prequels as bad movies at all, in fact I enjoyed all six of the movies almost equally (and I still do).
I remember watching The Phantom Menace with great exitement, and by the time the movie ended, I was completely blown away. My life was changed forever.

I didn't really had problems with the OT - PT transition, although watching A New Hope right after Revenge of the Sith was kind of a shocker.
The special effects and overall look of the movie were very different from the Prequels, so that took some time getting used to. It didn't bother me that much, though.

Also, when watching The Empire Strikes Back, I remember thinking that Yoda had gone insane when he first appeared on screen. Oh my god, Yoda! What happend to you?

Ok, so she has seen Episode I and overall she liked it! She said she likes seeing people's ideas of other worlds and watching how they work. She loved how ridiculous the Nemoidians were and was quite amused at the way their mouths moved. There was only a couple if things she didn't really care for, so I'll start with them:

    THE NEGATIVE

-The pod race. Surprisingly to me and most of my other co-workers, she wasn't all that into the pod race. In fact, she fell asleep during it, and had to watch the rest of the movie the following night. She said it was too long and she kept thinking "ok, let's just move this along here". I actually can see where she's coming from. I never thought the pod race was tied into the rest of the movie well enough to merit it's length either and the first time I saw it, I wasn't that thrilled. It is however something I like to re watch for it's A/V coolness.

-Jar Jar. She said he had too many lines, and I kind of agree.

    THE POSITIVE

-The cities. She liked the fact that Coruscant had traffic grid lines and it wasn't just random flying vehicles going anywhere they wanted. She also really liked Otoh Gunga and the name "gungans". I told her George Lucas let his 5 year old kid name the species and and she thought that was cool.

    - Watto. Oh my god, she LOVED him. I always thought that if Watto was in one of the more appreciated episodes, he would be more of a household name. The voice was done perfectly and the character is very entertaining. In her own words, "I loved the blue bee guy." She kept asking me to do his voice, as I sometimes do.

I asked her what she thinks will happen next, and she said "there's gotta be something between the queen and that kid". She thought the queen was giving Anakin "the eyes" (a bit inappropriately, considering the ages). Also, she said they have to find out who the other bad guy is. Obviously, she hasn't connected Palp and Sidious yet, which is a good thing. The more surprises in Ep3 for her, the better!!

So overall, she liked the movie and was super excited when I gave her Episode 2! Stay tuned...

A good start. She didn't hate TPM, which is good. She gave a pretty well reasoned view with objectiveness and is curious as to where the story will go.

The difference between this review and the girl above is that this guy knew all of the big spoilers going in even though he hadn't seen any of the movies yet. The girl in the other hand seems to have no idea who the boy even is. To her at this point she thinks he just a boy and likely has no idea where his story goes.

Does she know who Darth Vader is? Or at least whose father he is?

I asked her if she knew who Darth Vader was and she said she thinks so and "he's the guy who says 'I am your father'". However, she just associates that line with him because of pop culture. She doesn't have a CLUE that Anakin is actually Darth Vader.

Did she figure it out during AOTC? If not I can't to hear about her reaction to ROTS.
