    iTunes.

    Preferences > import > MP3.

Advanced (Contextual Menu) > Convert to MP3.

Remeber to highly the the track in iTunes before trying to convert it. If you can't find it on your HD once you have converted it. Right click/control click if you have a one button mouse > Get Info > Summary > Where > file path.

    Mac/PC.

Don't hesitate to PM if you have problems with iTunes.

Another vote for CDEX. I think it's still free.

iTunes is free, and always was. No limits.

I hate to ask this, but any reason why you asked this twice R2? You got the same answers. But an easy free dl is musicmatch jukebox at www.musicmatch.com. It will rip, and convert both ways.

MusicMatch has limits of how many you can convert. iTunes will convert as many as possible.

Since when does musicmatch limit the amount you can convert? Unless that's in a newer release than I have.

My understanding is that you need to buy the full version for that.

I actually wrote a program that does this a number of years ago. It's run from the command prompt, so it might be a bit hard if you're not computer savvy. If you want a lot of options, I give a vote to LAME, a command line encoder that gives you control of almost every aspect of the encoding process. I don't have a link right now, but I'll find one and post it here.

Any program that uses Lame as its encoder.

    I prefer dBpowerAMP

    http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

Best part is that Lame is free. So is the normal version of dbpoweramp. A registered version with a few added (more rarely used) features is also available for a cheap price.

Go to download.com and you will see it is also the most popular ripper/encoder.
