Great game today. First win in Germany to boot.

 

Goes to show that a strong MLS, which produces and *keeps* talent in America can do well against top international sides. Not everyone needs to go to Europe, Klinsmann.

 

Somehow missed this, but yesterday was the 25th Anniversary of the USA's first game in the 1990 World Cup. That ended decades of absolute futility for American soccer, and really set us on our path towards today.

Also, the U-20 win was the first by an American men's team in a knockout round of a global tournament since the 2009 Confederations Cup.

Juxtapose those, and see how far we've come, and how far we have to go.

 

As for youth setup, US development system is going very well and advancing quite strongly. 2022 dark horse for the World Cup? worth a punt.

 

Ibarra headed to Mexico/Club Leon. Why? Because RBNY were too cheap to pony up for an on-the-rise, already-capped US National.

Ticks me off.

 

So, Clint Dempsey went crazy last night, and his Sounders were left with seven men on the field in their elimination from the US Open Cup.

Dempsey's destruction of referee equipment should carry an automatic three-month ban. We'll see ...

 

He'll be fine. Any punishment handed out by the US Open panel does not carry over to the MLS.

 

Dempsey always seemed like a calm, level headed individual.

 

Except last season, when he punched a guy in the nuts and got suspended.

I think perhaps the USMNT just want to make the USWNT's Group Stage look good by comparison. What a flat performance.

Kevin Bacon looked good. Guzan looked good. Zardes was a spark. Other than that?

 

Yeah, not much going on tonight. Reams? Didn't look very good in the back.
