It's analogous to a situation under the US voting system where someone decides that the results of the elections in their area aren't representative of what they think the results should be, so they go and get all their friends from all over the country to register in that district and vote to 'correct' matters.

JediSmuggler, if you're not in support of Vox Day's politics, can I ask:

1) Why didn't you mention this in the OP, as his Rabid Puppy slate was the dominant one, and
2) Why are the SPs trying to describe Beale's expulsion from SFWA as unfair and a witch hunt?

 

It's funny but Neal Asher is considered as a more right-wing author relative to others, but his Polity books basically have these sort of people as enemies. It's a world ran by AIs, so some want to be 'free' of it all, despite the AIs doing everything for humanity with ease, while being quite snarky about - 'we could kill you all but we can't be arsed'. It could be said to be riffing on Culture minds too. Into that he throws the separatists who so do not want this utopia they'll kill lots of people because they have a Cause, you know? Everything's sanctified in pursuit of it.

(The first book has separatists screw over the teleportation system on a planet-planet link. The result? Huge explosion because the system did not contain the excess energy generated by teleporting a person from A to B as usual, instead using it as super-nuke!)

 

Of course I'm not, if these people have read at least one SFF story in the past year (even if it's a short story). Preferably that one is on the list of things they are voting for.

 

I just want to read and enjoy sci-fi/fantasy, that's it. Like I enjoy playing video games. Gosh these "movements" and "groups" are just...confusing.

 

So looks like the Puppy slate was shut out last night.

one of my favorite fantasy authors (Robert VS Redick) posted this article on facebook this morning

the short version is that while the nomination process was easy for right wingers to game so that they mostly got their way as far as the final ballot, the people who attend the con get to vote on who actually wins from that ballot, and so the right wing cargo cult activism was defeated. in categories where only "puppies"-endorsed authors were options, people just picked "no award", so nobody won those categories. in the other categories non-puppies endorsed authors swept. the smuggler tears... they will be sweet
