So I have tried Dewar's, I thought it was good, but again I don't know anything about whiskey. How would you more experienced whiskey drinkers compare that to say Glenfiddch, which I have not tried?

I've been too broke to go on any whiskey adventures lately! Just drinking my boring old go to's tin cup and basil hayden.

BUT. I just read an article (i'll find the link and post it in a sec) about CLEVELAND WHISKEY. apparently it's a whiskey start up in Cleveland (you don't say!), and they experiment with bypassing the aging process through chemicals and some dark magic or some ****.

have any of you guys ever heard of/tried this whiskey?

    EDIT: here's the story

I gotta say, even if it's embarassing, I was in San Diego and the Trader Joes there has a TJs brand bourbon from Kentucky and I ALMOST bought a bottle to bring home and check out. We don't have liquor in grocery stores in Oregon, so I can't get it here.

hmmm yeah ive never seen bourbon in TJ's. internet says it's from buffalo trace's barton facility, so that's promising

buffalo trace is also rumored to produce the in-house bourbon for Costco

maybe. the costco, despite reputedly being made by buffalo trace, is supposedly most like a discount-bin version of beam's knob creek

Yes, a guy on YouTube thought it was a 7 year old version of 8 year old Knob Creek. My guess is certain batches of KC don't make the cut so before the 8th year of ageing Beam "dumps it" at Costco.

Aright guys, let's play a game. I've come into a little bit of money, and I'm going to treat myself to a nice bottle (in the 50 - 70 dollar range).

    Suggestions?

I've not heard of or tried this but I'll have to keep an eye out for it next time I'm in Cleveland! I have a couple coworkers who are fans of nice whiskey and bourbon and I'd love to get their opinion of it.

Just chiming in to say I love Islay Whisky. Not to say Speyside and the High- and Lowlands don't produce proper malt, but there's just something about those salty, peaty Islay Malts that appeal to me.
Notable mentions: Bunnahabhain, Bowmore and Laphroaig Quarter Cask.
From Speyside, I love Glen Elgin

I finally got around to unpacking my liquor cabinet like two weeks ago and got to say hello to a few whiskeys I had in storage. Hellooooo.... Roommate's birthday BBQ tomorrow, might help myself to a few on the rocks.

my roommate's birthday party is also tomorrow! alas it is an "anything but clothes" theme party so my glencairn will probably seem a bit... out of place. i will opt for improper glassware (as i usually do at parties): mini mason jars are a nice compromise between an optimum drinking experience and not looking like a ****ing *******
