ST We Want Lando! Billy Dee Williams for Episode VIII

So Lando is a supporting OT character and we all love him.

Lando has recently been in Rebels, voiced by Billy Dee. Billy Dee also voiced Lando in the Lego Movie.
It's clear he still loves the character.

We all saw him as part of the Premiere of TFA.

Who want's Lando?

A little old to be honest. Cameo only IMO.

 

Hope he's not in it. The ST should have started afresh and had maybe only Luke in it. Shame they had to undo all the success of Jedi too.

I'd love to see him again. Never any bad ideas. Just bad execution. As long as they give him something logical to do I'm all for it.

 

Billy still has swagger and charisma in interviews, I think hed fit back into his role just as well as Ford did for Solo.

 

I'm almost positive that he'll be in Episode VIII. Billy Dee and some of the people at Lucasfilm have already hinted as much if I remember correctly. He almost HAS to be now actually.

 

That would have been a TERRIBLE idea, because then you'd have had people complaining that "the iconic characters" weren't in it. They made the right call there.

 

I mean, I think it's safe to say that lots of people were skeptical of the return of another trilogy, with the happy and conclusive ending that we had in ROTJ. Even I was like that, and at first wasn't as hyped as everyone else about a new Star Wars film (this was a couple years ago, mind you, not anytime recently). Then I punched it into hyperdrive. Results are happy. Looking forward to the rest of the trilogy.

Back on-topic, though, I would love for Lando to be in the ST. I remember reading speculation a while back he'd have some political role within the New Republic. I think that would be nice. It would fit in with his character, in my opinion.

 

True. But I could also picture him being a really successful businessman now as well.

 

Oh come on guys, we need Lando. He is very important to the saga. Lando just destroyed the 2nd Death Star!

 

Unsurprisingly I am in favour of this.

 

I think we need Lando. If the New Republic was just wiped out by the Starkiller, Leia is going to need all the help she can get.
Someone as savvy and charismatic as Lando would have to step in to help.

 

Just a cameo please. If they bring him back for a major role just because Han is gone, that's gonna be a real kick in the teeth for Han. Just replacing him like that, no thanks.

 

Yes, that would almost be like putting a white shirt and black vest on Lando, and giving him the keys to the 'Falcon.

 

An interesting sub-plot could see Lando (and Chewie) confronting Kylo and Lando being murdered just like Han... It would really ramp it up in the stakes if he was an inmportant figure in the galaxy and get the hate from the audience towards Kylo going through the roof.

 

I think that is unnecessarly repetitive. Lando should probably play a small role--lending leadership to the Resistance. I doubt we'll see him in an action scene.

 

How about a new smuggler character that is introduced by playing in a sabacc game against an unseen opponent. He loses and has to hand in his ship and his like:
"Well, congratulations, Mr Calrissian" And we see Lando there with a huge grin.

I know I keep saying this, but they need Lando in VIII. Han's gone and bringing Lando back now just makes so much sense.

I can't even begin to wrap my mind around why they would leave him out of the film at this point. It made sense for TFA because they had to work in a majority of the OT cast as well as dedicate time to the new characters, and have both groups come together in a way so that the story made sense. Now that that's done, they can get Lando back in. Plus it's not like Billy Dee is getting any younger. He's 79 today, in fact.

 

Eh, 79 is the new 49.

I think it would be cool if he's in 8. I like the idea of him being some part of the Republic, or at the least brings a fleet together to fight the First Order. Again, depends if it fits the story. To me, the story is more important than who from the OT shows up. The balance in TFA was perfect IMO. You needed that hand off but I'd like to see if the new characters can stand on their own without too much reliance on the old guard. Eventually, *IF* the story is to continue (past IX) the old guard won't always be there.
