Rogue One Wedge, Porkins, and the Rebel Fleet / Squadrons

I know this is likely a joke thread, but I actually do think that was a stupid oversight.

 

wasn't Pokins red5? I find it kinda funny that an Asian that was -ahem-similar to Porkins died so perhaps he took his place?

 

Luke was Red 5 at Yavin. Porkins was Red 6 I believe?

Why do you think it was an oversight? Supposedly the footage/audio of Red & Gold leader was from outtakes that weren't used in ANH. Maybe there weren't any outtakes of Porkins that could be used?

 

I was kinda shocked they didn't put Wedge in there. Any idea why not? That would have been the most notable use of that old footage. He would have almost certainly been there.

 

Porkins would have been easy to recast for a shot or two.

 

I don't really agree with that. People have watched ANH a billion times. Finding someone who looked & sounded like Porkins for basically a throwaway shot or two during the space battle would IMO not have been worth it.

You got any sources on that? I know ANH back and forward and the shots they chose looked like ANH shots to me.

In terms of Porkins - A lot of the Red and Gold squadron pilots were novices... quite obviously. I am assuming Porkins was one of those. Along with Wedge, Biggs, John D(?), etc

Who else was disappointed that Wedge was among of the characters that did not return for R1 during the Battle of Scarif? I know Denis Lawson refused to come back in TFA but still would have been nice to see him. I mean, he is after all getting a new origin story in the TV show Rebels, after all...

 

I can understand why they would cut Biggs (If the deleted scene still has any weight, he wouldn't have joined the alliance yet) but they should've kept Porkins...recast or otherwise...in there. I mean, they recast General Dodonna and nobody seemed too upset about it.

Now it seems we're left to assume that the bulk of Red Squadron perished over Scarif, making it a crew of mostly-rookies and replacements in ANH. Not implausible. It also makes a good explanation as for how Luke is so readily accepted as a starfighter pilot and handed the keys to an expensive, nigh-precious Alliance resource (an X-Wing fighter): They're desperate for manpower and scrambling to fill in their losses from Scarif.

Yes, just like I'm sure the general audience are just up in arms about the recasts of Mon Mothma and Cornelius Evazan.

 

But Mothma is a central figure to the Alliance who kind of needed to be referenced at some point given that the movie was about the Rebellion.

Porkins? I think we managed fine without him. No offense to the man or his mad piloting skills.

 

...But she was a Y-wing pilot??

 

Maybe they changed it.

 

Porkins and Wedge saw the Death Star for the first time in Episode IV. So it was wrong to have them in Rogue One.

Porkins was on his day off.
