REPORT OF JC MODERATOR DISCUSSION, WEEK ENDING 17 FEB 2002:

• Discussed current VIPs, ex-Mods, and their color schemes, trying to decide a good way to distinguish between the two.



• Security Issues.



• Continued discussions of ways to improve mod-member relations, and discussion of new moderator nominees.



• Discussed Administrative duties, procedures, statistics, and tasks that needed to be done, etc.



• Discussed technical problems such as PM error messages, online user glitch (no one was showing up for a while), etc. No solutions to date, as they seem to be minor problems thus far.



• Continued discussion of javascripting issues, and its potentially serious problems.



• Discussed the status of "____ by ____ threads".



• Discussed the possibility of the Fine Arts Forum.



• Announcements of new RSA for Aus/NZ, and other FF notes.



• Discussed the problem of newbie bashing, and reinforced the need to cut down on this type of practice.



• Discussed the problem of the Lit troll, and avenues of action to get rid of him.

It's like reading the transcript of a parliament meeting.

 

On the newbie-bashing issue, I'd suggest reminding people that no one who actually is an established member of the community would bash a newbie -- that's a pure sign of insecurity.

Anyway, tentative conclusions would be a good addition, if there were any.

 

I'd assume that the VIP issue was brought up by myself.

And that the issue on newbies was brought up by Kessel Runner because I had lost my temper to someone from May of last year who never posted.

Still, thanks for keeping this up.

Liz Skywalker mentioned in the same sentence as a mod and a former mod. A blatant clue for the next mod maybe?

Also, perhaps, you might look at it as bashing the wrong newbie could get us the next berry or... well you get the idea.

Wait until they've been here a few months before knocking the blinders form their eyes.

In terms of technical stuff, are you looking into threads not being 'upped' when someone posts in it? I have seen this a fair bit lately. Usually its in Communications, but yesterday it happened in one of the movie forums too.

 

I'm not sure that idea settles with me...

Just a note: the "previous thread for reference" link - in future, will it show every single previous thread, or only the previous week's thread? Because if it shows everyone, it's going to take up a lot of space. I think 1 week is enough for that one. Perhaps responses to the previous week's discussion could also be included?

I'm glad the reports are being continued. It makes folks feel more involved in what's going on. And it really can't take all that long to write up that executive summary. But the fact it was posted goes a long way.
