Okay, if you don't like Weird Al, you don't have to bother reading the rest of this post....

Okay, for those of you still here, as you may know, if you've read my signature, Weird Al has a new cd, titled Poodle Hat, coming out on May 20th. What you may not know is that it's an enhanced CD including the usual 12 comedy songs PLUS AL home movies, 4 bonus mixes, and more! However, this isn't the best part. :D

Al is returning on tour to Oklahoma! He'll be in Tulsa(!) at the River Parks Ampitheatre on August 5, and in OKC at the Bricktown Events Center on August 6. Tickets for both events go on sale May 31st. :D :D :D :D

DOH! I said there are 4 bonus mixes on Poodle Hat. There are actually 8 mixes of the original Weird Al tunes on the cd.

And, yes, he does write original music. Half of all of his music is original music, although some of the original songs are what he calls "style parodies" which sound like they could be sung by another artist, but aren't parodies of any specific song.

    LOL, Poodle Hat [face_laugh]

Man, if you get the chance, go see Al in concert...he puts on a great show and will come out into the audience while singing :)

No DFW dates on the tour section of his website...we may be making a roadtrip up to Tulsa or OKC to see him this time around! :D

Weird Al's site just updated, and the date for the Tulsa show was moved up a couple days to August 1st. The OKC date remains August 6th.

I've never been to the riverpark amiptheater... Is it just an open space with general admission type stuff? you come in and kind of squat on your space?

If not, and there are designated seats, who's interested in coordinating a purchase of a block of tickets? I know tickets go on sale on the 31st so it would be cool to have all the logistics worked out.

It's awesome that the date moved to the 1st since that's a Friday and all. :)

"Bob" is an homage to Bob Dylan, and "Genius In France" is a tribute to Frank Zappa, featuring a guitar cameo by his son Dweezil. Ben Folds plays piano on "Why Does This Always Happen to Me".

Ok, I made a kind-of cheesy trailer for the album, and I need some sucker.. err.. guinea pigs to test it out on different computer setups than my own.

Warning: You'll need Flash, and I'm pretty sure it'll suck on dial-up.

    Clickie.

"Couch Potato", the parody of "Lose Yourself" by Eminem, has been released, and you can go here to hear it. If that link doesn't work for you (it didn't for me at first), let me know. Here are the lyrics:

    "Couch Potato" by Weird Al
parody of "Lose Yourself" by Eminem

Look, if you had, one shot, to sit on your lazy butt,
and watch all the TV you ever wanted,
until your brain turned to mush,
would you go for it, or just let it slip, yo

Remote is ready, eyes wide, palms are sweaty
There's Flintstones on the TV already, Wilma and Betty
No virgin to channel surfing and I'm HD ready, so I flip
    Garbage is all I'm getting
this Simon Cowell, who folks wanna disembowel
he opens his mouth, always says something foul
they're dying, wow, wannabe's are crying now
he votes 'em out, time to throw in the towel
Shows based on reality, Oh the humanity
Oh Ozzy's family sho' loves profanity
Whoa, the insanity, Oh, dogs that crap and pee
Home of depravity? No, they live happily
Yo, plus the Ali G show, and Celebrity Mole
or this Anna Nicole, she's scarin' me
Look ma, no cavities, oh it's a station break
better go out to the kitchen and microwave somethin'

You're gonna lose your mind watchin' TV
They told me, they'd scold me, but I still tune in every show
my cable gets CSPAN, TVLand, and HBO
the Travel Channel, Discovery and Lifetime
You're gonna lose your mind watchin' TV
They told me, cajoled me, turn off those music videos
I'm gonna watch CSPAN, TVLand, and HBO
the History Channel, and QVC and Lifetime, you're gonna...

My butt is aching, as I watch Nascar racing
That show about undertaking, Larry King
to 24 to Law and Order, the Weather Channel's boring
    Like 60 Minutes, ancient reporters
Next up on E! True Hollywood Stories
the rise and decline of 12 actors named Corey
Shows for next Fall, they've already been named and
CSI Boise, and Touched By An Uncle, both sound pretty lame and
    so does Everybody Tolerates Raymond
And King of Queens jumped the shark the first minute
I can't believe Richard Simmons ain't in it
I move right on to 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter
then I bet i watch the Bachelorette followed by Welcome Back Kotter
and The Muppets Show where they go Mahna Mahna

You're gonna lose your mind watchin' TV
They told me, they'd scold me, but i still tune in every show
my cable gets CSPAN, TVLand, and HBO
the Disney Channel, and A&E and Lifetime
You're gonna lose your mind watchin' TV
They told me, cajoled me, but I still love Lisa Kudrow
I'm lookin' at CSPAN, TVLand, and HBO
the Playboy Channel, and Court TV and Lifetime, you're gonna...

Never missed, Melrose's Place or Lost In Space
I've seen each Amazing Race, and Without A Trace
but I only watched Will and Grace one time, one day
Wished I hadn't cuz TiVO now thinks I'm gay
Oh and Fear Factor, I watched maybe a half hour
After that, felt like i needed a long shower
    Network execs with naked ambitions
Next week on FOX, watch Lions Eat Christians
Like to tie up those programming planners
make 'em watch all of that junk till their heads explode just like scanners
Leech-covered grub eating fools on Survivor
Look, there's James Lipton discussing the ouevre of Mr. Rob Schneider,
and there's Gilligan, and Sponge Bob, plus there's MacGyver
and Jay Leno has got Madonna, hey there's Luke Perry, and a special all-Pig Latin episode of Drew Carey
Wanna turn on Et, cuz I'm a gossip freak
and I gotta know who J. Lo is marrying this week
A 30 second spot, then we come back to Are You Hot?
I was planning on recordin' the Sopranos, I forgot
I love shows with or without a plot
I'll stare til my legs are numb, my eyes bloodshot
Because I only have got, one brain to rot
I'm gonna spend my life watchin' television alot!

You're gonna lose your mind watchin' TV
They told me, they'd scold me, but i still tune in every show
    my cable gets CSPAN, TVLa

Thanks Billy! He's amazing. I can't wait another few days for this album...

Next week on FOX, watch Lions Eat Christians

Who doesn't believe that so-called "reality" programming isn't a huge sign of the fall of our civilization. Did we learn nothing from the Romans?

    From the River Parks website:

SPOT Rocks the River Concert With Weird Al
Fourth of a six-part concert series sponsored by the Tulsa World to be held at the River Parks Amphitheatre, 2100 South Jackson Avenue; tickets on sale for $29.50 each plus service charge for general admission or $39.50 each plus service charge for reserved seating at Albertson's Stores, by phone through Star Tickets at 1-888-597-7827, or online at www.startickets.com; gates open at 6 p.m.; no pets, chairs, coolers, cameras, outside food or beverages allowed; blankets are encouraged.

So do we want to try to get a block of reserve seating, or just go for the general admission?

Wife & I are going in on the reserved seating and would love to get other people in on it. If nothing else, the 4 of us can go Billy.

I'd be willing to put the block on my card and just be reimbursed would be fine. Can we use group funds? :)

I am what some would consider a "new fan". My friend burned me some of his songs, and I likes what I heard. I'd like to go, my mom said she might take me :).

Zach and at least one of his friends wanted to go as well, Brent.

Kenzi and I are fine with reserved seating as well!

    So, I've got:
    Brent & Jenn
    Billy & Kenzi
    Shelbi & Mom (?)
    Zach + 1

I was thinking of doing this tomorrow as soon as I can to get as good as I can. I can't afford to do more than 8 or 9, though.

If this looks right to everyone, I'll try for a 4x2 block of seats near the front-center (if possible), cool?

    Actually...

I'd be more comfortable if we could all meet at a particular Albertson's to do this transaction. It just seems safer for all concerned and I wouldn't be restricted to purchasing only 8. I'd be willing to meet anyone interested at an Albertson's at 10am to do this. I don't know which ones do the star tickets, but I think the 31st & Garnett store is nice and centrally located. Let me know your thoughts.

    Brent,
The meeting at the albertsons sounds good with us. We'll be there to buy our own tickets, one for each of us, my dad wants to come too. See ya there! Is anyone else coming?

Billy's gonna meet us there as well. In fact, I'm about to leave since I'm in Owasso and have to stop at Lowe's on the way out. I know we're still getting Zach tickets as well since he's out of town and he's getting 4 now. So, by my count, we're up to 11. See you there.
